Here you will find the Best and Worst of 1998. The chatters first made nominations, then voted. Enjoy, and please remember, this is all done in FUN!

TREK SERIES

Star Trek: The Next Generation edged out The Original Series for best series by just a few votes. However, The Animated series won for worst series hands down!

TREK MOVIE

This vote was a bit closer. First Contact won over The Voyage Home and Undiscovered Country and Insurrection by one and two votes respectively.

TREK CHARACTER

No real surpirse here. Spock easily won this category and Wesley Crusher handily took the prize for worst character.

BOOK

Imzadi held a slight lead over the others in this category. The strange thing here was that while the Final Frontier Series was voted worst book, it lost as best by only two votes.

TREK GAME

This category was apparently a tough one with no clear winners or losers. Theme chat Trivia and Star Fleet Academy tied for best, while DS9 Harbinger, CCG's, and Monopoly CCD all tied for worst.

SHIP

The U.S.S Enterprise E cleary rose to the best ship in Trek, and the Kazon ships were selected as worse.

CAPTAIN

What can I say about this man? He has run the gambit more than anyone else. He even took on a different persona for a while. He was "Locutus of Borg." That's right...chatter choice for best captain is Jean Luc Picard. Harry Mudd was voted worst, but by only one vote over Kathryn Janeway.

FIRST OFFICER

Was there ever any competition in this category for best? Spock is your choice for First Officer in any universe. Although not a regular, Shelby is your choice for worst barely winning over Chakotay.

DOCTOR

"I'm a doctor, not a (fill in the blank). Leonard McCoy blazed a path in space for the others to follow. How could he not be the best doctor in outer space? Kathrine Pulaski, while only on TNG for one season, left the chatters with an indelible impression as well: What a doctor SHOULDN'T be.

NEMESIS

Nemesis doesn't necesarrily mean evil...just an antagonizer. The chatters voted that Q, the omnipitant, is the best nemisis in the universe. We even suspect that the Q were present in TOS thinly disquised as "Trelane." However, Trelane just missed being selected as worst by the M-113 Creature better known as the "Salt Vampire."

FOOD

Where would we be without substinance? And Trek has provided us with some unusual choices. The chatters choice for best food is Terran however...PIZZA! The worst is from the Delta Quardrant, Neelix's cooking which tied with another Terran delectable, eggplant.

DRINK

If we eat we must also drink. Chatter's favorite drink is also the choice of the best captain in Trek...Earl Grey, HOT. Tied for worst are "It is Green" and water. Interesting choices.

EVENTS OF 1998

Some interesting events occurred in 1998. We said goodbye to some Trek characters and the stock market did a tumble but came back stronger than ever. Finding the chat rooms in the Continuum and Brianna and Dennis' wedding tied for the best event of the year. One thing to note here is that Brianna and Dennis met, fell in love, and married in the chat rooms. Must be something in the air, eh? The worst event of 1998 was precipitated by Terry Farell's decision to leave DS9 for the greener pastures of prime time network TV. Therefore, you chose the demise of Jadzia Dax as the worst event that happened in 1998.

WEB SITE

NO competition here in either category. The Star Trek Continuum is your choice for the best site on the web and www.USGOV.org is the absolute worst!

ISP

We certainly would be lost without our internet connections. Chatters chose local ISP's as the best and AOL as the worst.

WEB BROWSER

And how would be navigate the web without a good browser? Internet Explorer is the chatters choice over Netscape Navigator. Think Netscape will improve now that it's been purchased by chatter's choice for worst ISP?

ALIAS

An alias is that which we chatters chose to be known as in the chat rooms. Some pick Trek characters, others chose names from a favorite book, show, or historical character, and some chose their real names. You don't have to have a Trek alias to chat in the Trek rooms. Chatters choice for best alias was a surprise to me especially. You chose "Lwaxana" as the best and "Admiral Janeway" as the worst. I wonder what charms Lwaxana has over the good Admiral?

ACTOR

Your choice for best was never in a Trek series or movie, but he should have played Sybok in Final Fontier, Sean Connery. However, Will Wheaton did tie Bruce Willis for worst actor.

ACTRESS

Majel Barret Roddenberry, Kate Mulgrew and Nana Visitor all tied for best actress. Interesting that they all have player women of authority. Poor Rosanne Barr, who was never in anything Trek, and with good reason, is your choice as worst actress.
