The night before I was watching my tape of
Ally McBeal while my green
avocado face mask dried. After washing it off,
I got to bed about 12:00am.
6:00 AM - Are you nuts?
6:30 AM - The alarm goes off and a great 80's station soothes
me awake with classic songs like, "Eternal Flame". I sometimes
start singing along in my sleep by accident - it's so stupid! I
usually push the snooze bar.
6:45 AM - Debbie Gibson finally forces me out of bed and into
overalls or jeans after I brush my teeth. With
minimal make-up on, (usually
just mascara and cover-up on those under-eye
bags!) I grab some tea,
coffee, or sometimes a Diet Coke, and some fruit
or a Balance bar and I'm
gone!
7:10 AM - I'm in the car on the way to UCLA, taking
my back-routes to avoid
the horrible freeway! I keep myself entertained
with either the Rick Dees
morning phone scams or with one of my new CD's-
the latest being
Vanessa-Mae's The Violin Player (kinda a cross
between classical and rock- its
great).
7:50 AM - I park in one of the many structures
on campus and briskly walk to
my lecture hall for Psychology class. I find
a seat- oooh look- is that Carrie
Strug? I try to think of something to say but
everything sounds retarded.
Anyway, the professor is about to begin.
9:00 AM - I'm still here. We are taking lots of
notes of pretty basic stuff so
far- neurons, the endocrine system, etc. My professor
is pretty funny. She
has this wild hair and she kind of runs around
the stage asking us questions.
10:00 AM - Class is finally over- whew! I practically
run across campus to my
next class. Wait! Is that Urkel? No, just kidding!
11:00 AM - I'm in English now going over our first papers
we just got back. Thank God we have one more revision
left! We start discussing the reading material we had for
homework and the journal entries we wrote about it. The
time sure goes by faster when we can all get in a
discussion- except when the topic switches to Jerry
Springer- uhhh!
12:00 PM - I am back in the car flying to work
with my stomach growling
loudly over "Show Me Love" cranked up on the
radio. I reach into my HUGE
black patent-leather bag for a stick of sugar-free
gum and my water bottle-
always my two necessities!
12:30 PM - I make it to work just in time for
the reading of the next week's
script. I get myself a piece of roasted chicken
and some salad from the
catered lunch before we begin. I talk to Emily
Mae Young (Lilly) who sits
beside me, about her new pet beetle! Can you
imagine?
1:00 PM - The reading was pretty funny- my character
Al and her sister
Karen fight over a fireman that they meet at
a safety demonstration. I throw
my stuff on the green corduroy-like couch in
my dressing room and check my
messages. I have a callback for a guest star
role tomorrow- -score! I go over
the 4th script for that week for any changes.
If I don't have to work right
away, I try to get some homework done without
distracting myself with the
news, Oprah or my new Rolling Stone.
2:00 PM - Rehearsal has started with the cameras.
This is where we go over
the scenes to lay down marks- yes, actual pieces
of tape- so the cameras
know exactly where we stand during the scene.
This way we are never out of
focus and the cameras can plan on how to get
the best angles. After we get
the marks sown (mine is blue!) my stand-in comes
in to actually block the
scene. And you thought we did all the work! We
do, however, go over the
scene again afterwards, just in case they have
changed anything.
3:00 PM - I am in wardrobe fitting a last-minute
outfit. There is never a dull
moment with people changing things all the time!
In the episode we are
filming, my character gets to wear this really
beautiful 40's dress- its so much
fun. Patti, the costumer, gets us the best clothes
and then fits all of them to
us perfectly. It's amazing. There is a whole
list of things I want to steal out of
that room!
3:30 PM - Depending on the director and if I'm
in a lot of scenes that week, I
could be done as early as now. Sometimes we have
to pre-shoot a scene and
this involves getting everyone ready with hair
and make-up and wardrobe.
This could mean a few more hours.
4:30 PM - I am off the gym for an aerobics class
of some kind and then some
weights. Sometimes when I can't get myself motivated
to go to the gym I go
rollerblading or biking around my home.
6:00 PM - Home! Finally! I take a quick shower and
either relax for a little while or start dinner, depending on
if I go out or not. When at home, I don't usually like to
cook just for myself (I end up having a salad or
leftovers- yuck) so I usually invite some friends. I like to
make a variety of things from salmon to carrot souffle.
During the week I like to keep it simple with
turkey burgers, chicken breast or
some sort of stew I've concocted in the crock-pot!
7:00 PM - Sometimes my friends and I go to this
yogurt place that has this
GREAT soft-serve. My favorite thing to get lately
has been the sugar-free
flavor on a cone with sprinkles or shaved almonds.
Yum!! It's the best. The
guy that works there totally knows my regular
order now!
8:00 PM - Depending on if I can muster up the
energy, I'll start my homework
for class the next week, but I always make sure
to tape my shows- Spin City
(Michael J. Fox is so adorable), Dharma and Greg
(they crack me up) and
Party of Five. (Hey...is that Andrew Keegan?
Just kidding!)
10:00 PM - I check my email and write to friends
as I squeeze in a load of
laundry and prepare for the next day.
11:00 PM - I brush and floss my teeth and wash
my face. I either put on my
flannel pants or my red long underwear pajamas-
they even have the
button-flap in the back! I usually catch up on
some news.
11:30 PM - I either read or watch Leno as I snuggle
under my white down
comforter, my eyelids growing heavy with thoughts
of
dreamworld....yaaawn....zzzzzZZZZ
12:00 AM - End of another perfect day in the life
of Christine Lakin.
