Tales of the City, is a series of six novels, by Armistead Maupin, and a television miniseries following the lives and loves of a group of people living in San Francisco, during the past 20 years. Starting in the 70's it follows the decision of Mary Ann Singleton to forsake her plain life in Cleaveland, for a more fullfilling lifestyle in San Francisco. After just five days into her vacation she finds an apartment with the enigmatic Anna Madrigal, Landlady at 28 Barbary Lane, where she meets a diverse range of characters and what follows is the story of Mary Ann's world opening up to Marijuana growing landladies, co-ed bath houses, laundromats, mood rings, singles nights at the safeway and jockey shorts dance contests.
