Biography

Dave Foley got off to an odd start in Hollywood. He spent years in and out of women's clothing, before donning a suit and becoming a star in his own right. Foley was part of the comic phenomenon known as The Kids in the Hall and moved on to another comic phenomenon, NewsRadio.

In 1989, HBO and CBC coproduced The Kids in the Hall, a new sketch comedy series which broke boundaries. The casic troupe was made up of a small collection of men who liked to crossdress. The show was critically acclaimed and adored by audiences. However, when the show went off the air, none of them had a job lined up. A Kids in the Hall movie, Brain Candy would eventually come out, but would flop.

Eventually, Foley was approached by Disney for a new sitcom. Taking his wife and young sons with him, he headed to Hollywood. Soon after arriving, he found out that Disney had changed their minds about hiring him. Unemployed, a Canadian stranded in Hollyweird, what was he to do?

Luckily, Foley was soon offered another television role, for a new series entitled NewsRadio. In fact, the role had been written specifically for him by the creator of The Larry Sanders Show. The show went on to become a critical favorite and adored by a worshiping group of fans which grew everyday. An insane amount of scheduling changes early on seemed to be the doom of the show, but it preserved. It seems now the death of one of its stars, Phil Hartman, was part of the show's cancellation and constant time changes.

Foley has also begun to amass a growing number of film credits, most notably A Bugs Life and Blast from the Past. Originally, Foley had auditioned for Bugs Life merely so that he could meet the people who had made Toy Story, but the film-makers thought that Foley's quietly geeky tone was just what was needed to bring Flik to three-dimensional life.

In Blast from the Past, he gets to star opposite Brendan Fraser and Alicia Silverstone, introducting himself to a whole new audience.
