The Story of Stefan & Laura
The story of Stefan & Laura is one that is open to interpretation. SNL lovers have one interpretation while their detractors have another version. Being an SNL lover, I believe in the same version as many SNL lovers. If you are a detractor, this page is not for you. Here is the version as I believe it.
Laura Webber Baldwin Spencer was a happily married young woman. One day she was abducted by Helena Cassadine in retribution for Luke Spencer killing her husband. She was whisked away to the Cassadine compound on their Greek island. On this island along with Helena lived her two sons, Stavros & Stefan. Stavros was the beloved prince & heir to the Cassadine fortune. Stefan was, in his mother's eyes, the lesser, younger brother. Stavros was instantly taken with the beautiful, young captive & vowed to make her his wife. Fate played a hand in Stavros' plan when Luke turned up missing & was presumed dead. Laura agreed to become Stavros' bride in exchange for more freedom on the island.
As soon as she won her freedom, Laura would take walks in the garden & to the cove. One night, she is out & she is being chased by the guards. In the wild gardens, she runs into Stefan, who is immediately taken with Laura himself. As the guards head to the gardens, Stefan hides Laura & persuades the guards that she has not come that way & the guards go on their way. A bond of trust is borne between Stefan & Laura. After that time, they often met out at a private place on the cove. Stefan & Laura fell in love & soon after, consummated that love. Laura found herself pregnant with Stefan's child. In order to protect the unborn child, Stefan & Laura agree to let Stavros think it is his, thus saving the child's life as well as their own lives.
Laura gives birth to a baby boy who is named Nikolas Mikhail Stavrosovich Cassadine...prince and heir to the Cassadine fortune behind his "father" Stavros. Stefan spends as much time as possible with his son & Laura. Then the day comes that Laura learns that her husband Luke is alive & well. She tells Stefan & then tells him that she must see her husband. He is heartbroken, but knows Laura must do this. Laura promises to return & Stefan promises to look after Nikolas and protect him. Laura soon leaves the island, never to return.
Sixteen years later, Stefan & Laura are reunited by the illness of Leslie Lu, Luke & Laura's daughter. Stefan brings Nikolas to Port Charles to donate bone marrow for his little half sister as he was a match for her. There are initial bad feelings between Stefan and Nikolas and the Spencers. Eventually, the bad feelings between Laura and Stefan & Nikolas melts away. Laura and Nikolas build the mother/son relationship they have been denied for Nikolas' entire life...Stefan & Laura rediscover the love they knew on that island in Greece. Now separated from Luke, Laura is involved with Stefan, slowly building their relationship & becoming a family with their son Nikolas. Will this family be a lasting thing? Only time will tell. The SNL fan in me would love to see it last, but the realistic side of me tells me that the relationship is doomed as long as Luke Spencer is around. No matter the outcome, I will always believe SNL are/were meant to be.
