The Revival of Rosina Ferrara
Almost two years ago, Rosina has been the subject of interest at the Adelson's Gallery exhibit of paintings of female muses of John Singer Sargent. She was featured in the book of the same name of the above exhibit. There are at least two never-before seen paintings of her. One of those depicted Rosina carrying a load of garlic on her back. She turns her face to us to reveal a happy girl enjoying what life's offering. I recommend getting the book to anyone interested. Unfortunately, the Adelson Gallery book on the 2003 exhibit is limited and one may have to request it from the gallery where the Sargent's women collection exhibit took place. I tried to obtain the book through interlibrary loan, it didn't worked out. So I suggest contacting the gallery if one wants to obtain the book. She was also the subject of commentaries in the 2003 "Sargent and Italy" and "Great Expectations. Again, Sargent's paintings of Rosina were featured. Last year, Sargent's profile of Rosina Ferrara was sold at Christies for $688,000 US Dollars. The sale underscores the enduring popularity of Rosina Ferrara for over a century.
