---|---|---|---|---|
Elevator Action | 24.8K | Set in an high rise building, move the elevator up & down and go in search of secret documents whilst avoiding enemy spies. A poor arcade conversion - prepare to be dissapointed. | ||
Elite | 46.4K | Elite is the game that started it all: one of the earliest and one of the best space exploration/bounty hunting/trading/flight simulators. Fly your Cobra Mk III around an astonishingly large universe for a floppy disc - a real classic. Load " elt1",8,1 to run the game. - Game review by The Fierce Pancake, USA - TX | ||
Frankie Goes To Hollywood | 44.2K | Probably the weirdest themed game ever - based on the logo of the band "Frankie Goes to Hollywood", finding a murderer?! Very cryptic, first you must find the victim and then obtain enough clues to identify the murderer while attempting to become human at the same time. Lots of sub-games too, with an adventure-style main game. What can I say. Play it. - Game review by Domgrief, Australia | ||
Friday the 13th | 46.6K | This is a game where you take the place of a group of camp counselors and have to fight a muderer named Jason Vorhees. The graphics are ok and sound is also only ok but the game has great gameplay! - Game review by Christian Ducharme, USA - ME | ||
Gauntlet 2 | 79.8K | Choose one of four mystical characters and fight your way through heaps of levels, whilst collecting valuable items. Graphics aren't to flash. Apart from that, it is a must for multiple player gaming fans. | ||
Ghouls 'n' Ghosts | 95.5K | A sequel to Ghosts 'n' Goblins. Improvements to the original are; more action and an excellent soundtrack. Unfortunately the graphics have not improved. (This may have been an attempt to save space and hence make the game larger.) | ||
Giana Sisters | 42K | Whats to say about such a classic game. Giana sisters rivals the early mario brothers games, and even competes with it in 'likeness' of a couple levels. Playability is very high, and these babes are shocking (play game to see why) 1 or two players. Original C64 peoples, and newcomers all will enjoy this!! - Game review by Stormer, USA, Washington | ||
Grog's Revenge | 78.3K | What do you get when you put a caveman, "the wheel" & some treachorous mountains set in a capitalistic society; Grog's Revenge of course! Our caveman friend (unicycle and all) travels IN and around mountains collecting blue tokens to pay the evil capitalistic, toll-collecting henchman, who just sits there waiting for you to give up your hard earned to buy a passage to the next level. (Go the C.C.C.P!!!!!!... only joking ;) On top of this our caveman friend must avoid oil slicks, green monsters, rocks and the cliff face. (Can anyone tell me why if this guy has the brains to invent the wheel he just doesn't get off his wheel and walk along the narrow paths?) | ||
Ikari Warriors | 73.9K | 1-2 player simultaneous mode. This is perhaps even better than Commando as you can play with a friend. Has the added feature of enabling players to fight enemies with a tank! | ||
Impossible Mission | 37.7K | EPYX created what remains the best platform game ever written. Take on Elvin Atombender and his legion of robots in an attempt to save the world. The clock is against you, the robots want to destroy you, the puzzle pieces will confound you and Elvin has dealt with many agents before you. Now this is a game! - Game review by Ryder, Australia, Queensland | ||
Impossible Mission 2 | 92.6K | Well, what can I say. If you liked Impossible Mission, you'll like this. As the title suggests, it's a VERY difficult game, but not impossible. I've never been able to complete this game though a friend of mine has and can do it regularly. If you like really tough platform games, give this a try. It's well worth it. - Game review by H. Clayton Howell, USA, Kentucky | ||
Ironman Offroad | 40.6K | This was quite a good game on the Amiga format. Although the graphics on the C64 are a little worse for ware. Choose from up to 3 players and race along tracks that range from dirt and bumpy to dirt and bumpy! | ||
Jumpman & Jumpman JR | 68K | Old but good platform game from EPYX. Jumpman & Jumpman JR has same gfx. and s fx. engine. A man (you), who jumps around and collect some brown things. Bewar e bullets, robots, moving ladders, fire balls etc. D64 file. Tested on PC64, C 64S and MagiC64. - Game review by Deniz Turkmen, Turkiye (Turkey) - Izmir (Smyrna) | ||
Karateka | 48.3K | Ground breaking as it was part of the first wave of fighting games to hit the computer screen. The plot: as a martial arts master battle your way through a horde of enemy charcters (where have I heard that one before?) It looks decent enough but has no music and what little sound there is, is not worth mentioning :) Though the worst feature must be the apallingly slow gameplay. With the time the computer takes to respond to your moves you can go outside rake the leaves, mow the lawns, water the garden, pull out the weeds still leaving enough time to watch an episode of "Yan Can Cook"!!!!!!!!! | ||
Kick Off 2 | 159K | Probably the most realistic football game on the C64. You're players are prone to the odd injury, they get tired and occasionally earn the wrath of the referee. However, the downside is that the players move a tad too fast. | ||
KickStart 1 & 2 | 46.8K | Jump over water, mud, fire and holes in addition to manouvering over various obstacles including; telephone booths, fences, buses and cars. However watching your brother stack his motorbike is the best part of this game. 2 player mode is the best. | ||
Koronis Rift | 81.6K | Before Lucasfilm coded XWing v's Tie Fighter, they programmed 4 classic 64 titles in the mid eighties. None were better than Koronis Rift. Explore rifts and loot alien hulks in the quest for fortune, fame and survival. The fractual graphics are still good and your robot helper's animation is awesome, as is the game itself. - Game review by Ryder, Australia, Queensland | ||
Kung Fu Master | 74.7K | This would have been a better game if the programmers did not force the gamer to press 'space' every time you wished to change from punch to kick mode (and vice versa). | ||
Law of the West | 98K | Get your 10 gallon hat and your trusty 6-shooter ready for a gun tootin' adventure. As the sheriff of a 2-bit town (shouldn't that be 8-bit? ;) you must apprehend those dog gone varmints, charm the womenfolk and deal with some other surprises before "sundown". "Adios amigos". | ||
Lazarian | 10K | Included because it was my first game. Sorry I tell a lie. "Retroball" was my first game alas I can not find it anywhere :-(. So this will have to do. Oh by the way if you're interested Lazarian was created by Bally/Midway way, way back in 1982. A typical space game from Midway: simple colours, chunky graphics, and a soundtrack which plays as a "who's who" of olde English music. You now like the "ice-cream van music"! | ||
Lazy Jones | 34.1K | This game has dozens of small games in it. A guy is wandering around and looking inside the doors of a big house. He must take care not to be caught by the other inhabitants. Great game. | ||
Little Computer People | 38.1K | Little Computer People creates a unique environment for both you and your computer. With this program you can see the little people that live in your computer come to life. You can play games with them or just watch as he wanders around his home. This is a unique game that offers a lot more than just a screen saver. - Game review by Jeremy Jones, USA, Arkansas | ||
M.U.L.E | 44K | M.U.L.E. Often described as the first Cut-throat economics game ever programmed for any computer system. If you ever had a C=64, you probably had Mule, it was wildly popular. The basic strategy is to first pick a race that reflects the style of play that you will follow. Personally I uusually go with the Necton(sp). Then you need to have a good trigger finger so you can grab the land you want and outfit your Mule for the production of whatever is appropriate fro that plot. Moutainous plots are good for mining (the more mountains the better), flat land is good for energy production, and river plots are good for growing food. All in all a good game that brings back lots of memorys for me of really late nights spent with friends trying to starve them to death. - Game review by Martin Slagle, USA, WA | ||
Mail Order Monsters | 75K | A truly classic game from EA, Mail Order Monsters allows you to either have quick, arcade style matches or make a monster and advance him through the ranks to total domination. You get to select from several different types of monsters, called "morphs", increase their attributes, give them weapons and other equipment and fight in three different types of scenerios.. This game has everything one could hope for in an 8bit computer game. - Game review by H. Clayton Howell, USA, Kentucky | ||
Mercenary | 122K | Crash landed on the planet Targ (yes there's even a cut scene) you are left with a few thousand credits and a surprisingly large city to explore in glorious ;) 3D. Walking, flying, driving, floating space stations, underground cities, stunning architecture - Mercenary has the lot. Objective is to escape from the planet by whatever means you can (including flying cheese??!!) - Game review by Barry Clark, Western Australia | ||
Midnight Resistance | 77.3K | Horizontal scrolling, platform game. Aim: earn credits, build up an impressive armoury whilst destroying the enemy. We recommend it. | ||
Mikie | 43.5K | This one was quite popular back in the old days (if you care to call them that), especially with me. It is a very common game. It was a favourite in the arcades, and is a play that focuses on a nightmarish day at school for a youthful (and ostensibly coolheaded) boy named Mikie. All the workers at the school seem to have turned against him. Your role is to avoid the teachers and the cleaners and even the chef de cuisines, whilst at the same time executing your task in each of the contrary levels. For example, level one is naturally set in the classroom, where you must collect all the hearts from under the pupils seats (sometimes by bumping them off and stealing their seats!), and then abscond - with the dreaded pedagogue (who actually spits his false teeth at you from time to time) on your tail all the way. A highly enjoyable venture, with clear graphics, pretty environs and commendable tunes that should keep you attached to play this one over and over and over . . . - Game review by Mark.E Atkins, UK | ||
Monopoly | 82K | The beauty about computers is that they don't cheat (unlike my brother). So this is ideal for friends/family who, shall we say, tend to be more "competitive" than others. It's a pretty basic program but who cares. The game is monopoly, what do you expect! Unfortunately you can only play with two players but you do get to hear a quaint "Toot Toot" when you land on a station :-). Obviously there are some advantges and disadvantages with respect to playing the "real" thing. For example, rolling the dice. How many times have you furiously shaken the dice in a vain attempt to "produce" doubles, to get out of jail (or not too, if the properties are rather expensive to rent for the night!) Yet the ultimate beauty of "Monopoly CBM64" is that you'll never, I mean NEVER loose the pieces :-). | ||
Monty on the Run | 49.8K | Monty on the Run is a ravishing piece that is well worth a look. Graphics are of normal yet nicely colourful standard, but the game itself is a barrel of laughs and requisite skill. You are Monty, a mole who is supposedly an escaped convict from prison, who has to travel through some unknown persons house and through sewers and beyond. The world seems to have come to demonic life! He also swindles money and collects objects along the way. The gameplay is smooth, simple and beautiful, and the game itself should keep you amused. But if there is one thing that I love the most about it, one thing that rises above all else, it is that absolutely ingeniously funk-delirious theme tune - I'd get a copy of it if I were you people, seeing so many are about and waiting to be downloaded. One difficult thing about this game, however, is trying to pick the necessary five items to start out with - in your survival kit. If you pick a wrong object, chances are that you're going to get stuck somewhere along the way of escaping. This lends the game a serious task of difficulty, which might just be enough to turn people off it after a few laborous tries! Me? I love it; and I'm still ploughing. - Game review by Mark.E Atkins, UK | ||
Moon Patrol | 13.5K | An arcade classic. Remember the great time you used to have before school playing moon patrol.. ahhhh dems were the days!. The days when you could sit down, plug in 20 cents and control that little buggie - forwrd a bit, back a bit, shoot down a couple of flying things, jump... WATCH OUT FOR THAT CRATER... CRASH! To me this was brilliant fun. Though now I look back and wonder. I wonder what was the aim of the game? why was the moon orange with green hills?? why the school kids were the laundromat's best customers??? and why it closed down soon after the school banned us from there???? Check out the game and maybe, just maybe you'll find out. | ||
Omega: The Neural Tank Simulator | 179K | This is another game I really like. You have to write a program for a tank so that this tank can go out and kill other tanks. The more you kill, the more funding you get from OSI. However, to do this, you really do have to write a program. It's got a nice little interface though so you don't have to do much typing, just use the joystick to move your cursor around. However, if you really want to play this game, you HAVE to go to Project64's web page and get the manual for it. - Game review by H. Clayton Howell, USA, Kentucky | ||
Pacland | 104K | A game for little kids. Just like us! A cheery cartoon-like platform game. It will cheer you up. | ||
Paradroid | 105K | Andrew Braybrook coded a couple of gems for the 64, this is one of them. You assume the role of Droid 001 and must shut down all the other robots. You can shoot them, but the key to success is taking over robots with better weapons. This game won a ZZAP 64! Gold medal, download it to find out why! Excellent. - Game review by Ryder, Australia, Queensland | ||
Pirates! | 135K | This still resides in my mind as my all time favorite c64 game. It had just enough of everything:exploring, role playing,on screen sword fights, ship battles, and lots of treasure hunting. True, the action is mild compared to many of the best games, but this one I could always rely on to relax and enjoy. It's what got me interested in the c64 emulators in the first place. - Game review by Zane Whitaker, USA - FL |
