If you were born sometime during the past 20 years or so, you probably grew up watching music videos on MTV. Ever notice how boring those music videos are? If you have, try tuning into VH1's Pop-Up Video. Pop-Up Video uses a very creative kind of graphic art to provide extra trival information on music vids. This show first aired on VH1 in October of '96. Through the maricle of syndication, it soon appeared on MuchMusic, (the Canadian equivalent of MTV) and it soon became the highest-rated show on VH1.
So, the basic premise is, little windows pop up during select music videos with bits of information in them. You learn fun facts about just about anything. This is an example from the Police video, Every Breath You Take. The bubble says, "Every breath you take through a cigarette contains 60 cancer-causing chemicals."
Each little window that 'pops' is accompanied by a graphic indicating what the topic of the widnow is. This pic is the symbol for 'gossip'. The info bubble would say something like: "Jakob Dylan (of The Wallflowers) HATES being compared to his dad, Bob."
Now, the crew at Pop-Up Video has been accused of being a little mean-spirited. I disagree. They are consistant in their humor and wit used in the little bubbles, and this show scores high on my origanailty/creativity scale. Watch Pop-Up Video if you're tired of those plain, boring music videos.
