So after over a year and a half in delays.  The Crow Salvation is finally here.  So was it worth the wait?  Well in my honest opinion "no" it wasn't worth the wait.  I'm not saying it was a terrible movie but it definately could have been released in October of "99" instead of March 20 of "01".  So what did I expect from The Crow Salvation?  Well that's a simple question another dark, sad, and violent movie.  And thats exactly what I got.  I also expected it to be better than "The Crow City of Angels" (not a hard task) but no where near the masterpiece "The Crow".  And once again I got exactly what I expected.  So do I think this movie should have been released in Theaters?  Yes I do, but in a limited release.  I don't think this movie would have worked with the general public but I think having it in selected theaters would have been great for us Crow fans.  So my take of the movie out of a rating of 1 threw 10 would be a definate 4.
Alex Corvis (Eric Mabius)
The Cast
So what about the cast of the movie.  How well did they fare?  Well it ranges from good to terrible.  Lets start of with Eric Mabius, I personally thought he did a pretty good job playing the part of The Crow.  He didn't have the same screen presance as Brandon Lee but he was much more enjoyable to watch then Vincent Perez.  Next up is Kristen Dunst.  What can I say, I was neither impress or disapointed with her acting.  But I can't say it was one of her better roles since all she really did threw out the movie was to cry and act sad.  Next, Fred  Ward!  What the hell, this was the worst actor you could have picked for a Crow movie.  Hell Judah Earl (Richard Brooks) from The Crow City of Angels makes Fred Ward look like crap.  Fred Ward simple did NOT fit the part.  Maybe he could have passed for one of the crooked cops but definately not as the main bad guy.  Send him back to "Tremors"
Erin Randall (Kristen Dunst)
Another tale of love, death, and vengence.
Something to Crow About
Okay I know it's only a movie but there's a lot of things in this movie that where really dumb.  Okay first off Alex excapes from the prison so easily.  Where's the locked doors?  Must have been a minimum minimum security prison.  After he excapes nothing is reported of an unknown person excaping.  Alex breaks threw a ceiling window in the Police Station.  Since when do Evidence rooms have sky windows?  Fred Ward says something along the lines of "The dead can come back and that he read about it".  Where would he have read about it?  Crow Mythologies For Dummies?  Alex kills many innocent police officers in his quest for justice.  Since when does the Crow Justice involve the killing of Innocent people?  This never happened in the first two Crow movies.  The conclusion of the movie has Fred Ward strapped into the same Electric Chair that Alex was killed in.  Now since when do prisons just have there Electric Chairs open to the public?  So this isnt much harder to believe then a man coming back to life but that's the whole point of the movie.  But I guess the average viewer dosent look for those kinds of things.
Final Words
So there you have it.  My little run down on The Crow Salvation.  Is it worth checking out if you havent seen it yet?  Definately.  It dosent have the same magic as the first film but it did a better job then "The Crow City of Angels".  I expecially liked the positive point that was made in the movie about how Lauren fought for her life because she felt life was worth living.  Something I can't full heartedly agree with, but it was a good point.  So by all means if your a Crow fan you should check out this movie.  I aint recommending that you buy it, but at least give it a rent at your local Video store.  Just don't expect it to be in the same league as the origianl Crow.
