Carl was Beth's ex from Arizona whom Alan hired to keep Phillip and Beth apart. Only problem was he had quite a temper and beat up on Beth. Later, when Harley went digging for Beth's past, she turned up Carl, who came to Springfield in a quest to get some money. Only somebody plugged him by the Spauldin pond first. Okay, fine, but whodunit?
