Salma Hayek Jimenez was born on September 2nd, 1966 in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. Her father is of Lebanese descent and her mother of Spanish a the mix that gives her a unique and beautiful appearance. She grew up dedicated to gymnastics, but her parents were against this for a career, so while she tried a variety of things, wasn't able to find a passion for anything other than performing. When she turned eighteen years old, she packed her bags and headed to Mexico City to pursue a career in acting. She got her first role in 1988 with the theater production of ALADINO Y LA LAMPARA MARAVILLOSA. Then, in 1990, she got a role in the theatrical comedy LAS VISITAS TIENEN SUENO. After that, she made a television movie NUEVO AMANECER and, played Leading-Lady in, THERESA, a very popular TELENOVALA. In 1993, she got a big break and landed a role in an American production - Allison Anders' MI VIDA LOCA. In the film, she plays Gata, a sideline character. Two years later, in 1995, she got her first big studio movie role next to Antonio Banderas in the Robert Rodriguez film DESPERADO. Salma was also in the movie FOUR ROOMS, in a segment entitled "The Misbehavers" - also by Rodriguez. One year later she did FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, another film from Rodrigeuz as well as many other films.
