The Reamergance of the trashy teen flick

In the 1980's there was a great surge of teen flcks,... starting off with things like Rock'n'Roll high school and other things like Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink... WELL! now in the late 90's they're BACK! but this time they're not all sweetness and light, dealing with innocent crushes...this time they are better, more full on - for example the cocaine sniffing bitch in Cruel Intentions who was constantly seducing her step brother.

To me these films are great, they are like an institution, they always deliver, without fail, the trashy, mindless crap that we come to expect from films such as these...and you are never disappointed with the thin storylines, the average acting and the classic lines. They follow in the tradition of Heathers, light mindless fun over a rather dark sense of humour...

I think the 1990's revival started with things such as Scream, where Wes Craven started to make some kind of funny and half decent horror film... from there came Scream 2, I Know What You Did Last Summer, I Still Know..., Cruel Intentions, Disturbing Behaviour, She's All That, The Faculty, Urban Legends, Can't Hardly Wait... and the list goes on...they, like in the 80's, are using the same actors (Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Reese Witherspoon and everyone character from Dawsons Creek), in the same characters... and they are still coming! over the past two years there's been this AMAZING surge of these films that garentee a good night in front of the tele, at which time the brain goes off and you can have a good ol' laugh...

I'm not saying right now that these films are brilliant films, highly educational and meaningfull...cos they're not...if you thought that, well... you should be shot... It's just my opinion..once again...and in my opinion... those that don't like these films should open their eyes and just go with it for a while...you might recognise a little bit of the underlying irony and sarcasm in these films.
