Genealogy Page of Andrew W. Franklin

The primary family names I will be researching are Franklin, Donovan, Cierpich, and Spielman.

I may be able to trace the Franklin line into the American colonial period. My 3rd great grandfather Dennis Donovan is an Irish immigrant, settled in Wilmington, DE. The Cierpich's immigrated from Poland after the turn of the century settling in Webster, Mass. Andrew Spielman is a German immigrant who served with the 75th New York Volunteers during the American Civil War.

Notes:

December 2006; attempting to confirm more information on the Franklin line with Beth (thanks Beth!). Amos Weeks added to Weeks ancestry, will fill in more information later.

November 2006; Have been contacted by decendants of Spielman and Franklin families. Over the last couple months I have added several names to each line. Received helpful information to confirm two additional children of George Franklin. Also, determined that Jane Donovan and Dennis lived in Meriden, CT (!) at the time of her death. Unfortunately the death registry does not give her parents names.

October 2006; Have been adding information to the Donovan, Cierpich and Spielman lines, was able to decipher some information on the Franklin line. Also found where Rose Dillon went, she remarried and had a child (see Dillon link).

October 2002; through diligence and persistent, Rosalie Spielman added a new generation of Spielman to the line. Rose received information on Andrew's parents and grandparents from Soden, Germany.

May 30, 2002; Additions and corrections made to the Weeks and Badger pages with information from Dr. Richard Tubbs. This lists the known and attributed 11 children to Lucetta and Frank Weeks.

May 20, 2002; More Mayflower lineage. Traced the line back to Richard Warren with the help of Elizabeth Thompson's notes and information from the Mayflower web page. According to the notes, I should be able to link the lines to other Mayflower passengers, Edward Winslow, James Chilton, and William Brewster.

May 2002; Mayflower lineage!!! Tons of new information obtained from Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson, my father's cousin. She has lineage information tracing the Franklin line to the Mayflower passengers ( Alden, Bradford) and American Revolutionary War soldier Caleb Hayden (Alden line). More work and more information to follow.

August, 2001; Found some information on the arrival of the Cierpichs from the Ellis Island website. A picture of the ship taken by Rosalia, Joseph, Walter, and Sophia has been posted.

March 18, 2001; Located information in the Franklin line, the Snow line has been traced to the 16th century by unknown people. This line links to the Franklin line through the Clark line.

December 1; Up against several stone walls and a bad computer at home. Recently added a photo of Frank Cierpich, the only known photo.

March 28; Using several sources, I have compiled the Avery and Waterman lines to the earliest known individual. The sources used for each is listed at the end of the report. Use the link above to view the reports. The LDS was most helpful, however, some of that information is suspect. Using the other sources listed, I tried to corroborate as much information as possible.

March 4; The Avery family may be traced to the early 18th century and a Waterman link may be traced to the first settlers of Norwich, Connecticut. I am attempting to substantiate these links.

February 16; Death certificate of Lucetta/Lucritia Weeks Whitney names her parents, the Badgers. Included a Badger decendant report above.

February 12; Learned the marriage date of Frank Weeks and Lucetta P. Badger from the Barbour Collection of vital statistics. Added the Weeks decendant report.

February 3; Finally received the copy of the death certificate for Samuel Donovan. His parents were listed on the certificate as was the country born, click on the DONOVAN report above.

I've added a genealogy report of the Barnes line. This family name comes from Plymouth Massachusetts.

January 28; A trip to Fall River Massachusetts to find a death certificate for the sister of Samuel Donovan was a bust. The lady said she would have to contact me after she did a search. I have little hope this will result in any information. The Providence, RI stop proved to be fruitful and I met a very pleasant and friendly caterer of the Archives of VRs. There I learned the parents names of Annie and John Windle. Their place of birth was not more specific then Ireland, but its the names of another generation. I look forward to returning to the Archives for research on George Franklin.

January 21, 2000; Rhode Island vital statistics go online. I found several pieces of information on the Windle family, my gg-grand parents, these are posted above.

December 27th; Very dissapointing trip to Worcester Mass to get a death certificate for Samuel Donovan. No certificate filed? I have sent a letter to the state archives.

December 4th; Found the death certificate for Andrew Spielman which has the names of his parents from Germany on it. Click the Spielman report above. The Pomfret town vital statistics has no records of the Clark relatives.

November 19th; Introducing a new ancestry line from the Franklin line, the Clarks. My third great grandfather Charles G. Franklin married Jane Clark in 1835 in Pomfret, CT. Jane's parents are Celeb and Mary and they had eleven children. See the link above to view the descendant report.

November 9; Confirmed the parents of Charles G. are George and Abigail. George was born c. 1787 in Providence, R.I. and Abigail Avery, c. 1789 in Norwich. Click the Franklin link above to see the known children of George and Abigail, there were as many as eight siblings listed in the 1840 census. Note: The interment record show Charles G. Franklin is buried with his wife at the site in Grove Street Cemetery.

November 7; Spent several hours in the town hall looking at birth and marriage certificates. As it turns out, Samuel V. Donovan is something of an enigma. All the stories we heard that he emigrated from Ireland are in doubt. His marriage certificate as well as childrens birth certificates say he is a native of the state of Delaware. So, which is the truth? Further investigation is required.

Oct. 29, 1999. A few phone calls to the cemetery association got me intern dates for several of the Franklins. Another afternoon at the library and I now have the obituaries of Frederick E. and Charles F. The obituary identifies Charles G. and Jane Lucritia Clark as the parents of Frederick E. So that link is now positively identified. There is a grave marked L.J. Clark, wife of C.G. Franklin (along with birth and death dates that appear correct) in the Grove Street Hale list. This might prove to be Jane's grave site (the L.J. may be a typo). I need to find this grave and make an investigation as to whether this is Jane's grave. Also, Charles G.'s grave has yet to be found.

Oct. 15, 1999. Made some changes to the Spielman family. I had Mary Spielman married to the wrong fella. Added some cousins on the Spielman side.

Oct. 3, 1999. My great Aunt Rose gave me the baptismal certificates and marriage certificate of my great grandparents Cierpich. I now know the names of my great-great grandparents.
