I am placing these photos on the web for two reasons:
I) To help undermine tight control of mass media by small groups
II) To help demystify celebrities
While I am not trying to paint a picture of Jodie as the enemy of this, I believe these two points are important elements for the type of egalitarian society we might wish to have. The sort of mystical power that fame has over some segments of the public could have the power to undermine our system of laws which seeks to be blind to a particular person's social position. Different from a moneyed class, a privileged class, with extra-legal rights will, hopefully, stay buried in the industrialized world.
Many people admire her for her beauty and
the sensitivity she puts into her roles. They should feel free to keep admiring
her. But it's important to realize that movie stars are people like the rest
of us. I think it's fine to appreciate a person's talents, but to elevate them
to the status of little gods would be a bad habit.
