Rant & Roar

"Now I don't want to get off on a rant here, but...." -Dennis Miller

Here is my Rant and Roar page. My rants vary in length depending on how I feel and how much I have to say about each issue. Once again, I'd like to point out that I am not trying to offend anyone in particular. This is just me blowing off some steam.

Topic: Hotel Showers

I hate hotel showers with a passion. They seem to always be the same no matter which hotel you stay at and they are always horrible. I don't know how hotels set up their plumbing but they need to find a better way of doing it.

I don't understand why every hotel seems to use the single knob system for showers. You pull out the knob to turn on the water and then turn the knob left or right to change the temperature. This system is terrible when it comes to finding a comfortable temperature. If you had 2 different knobs for hot and cold, you could turn one up and the other down to adjust properly. The single knob system makes finding the right temperature unnecessarily difficult. The biggest problem is that when you turn the knob so that it's about halfway between the hottest setting and the coldest setting, the temperature jumps from being way too cold to way too hot. As a result, you have to constantly adjust the knob by a fraction of a centimeter to find that temperature which is exactly between hot and cold. It makes you wonder why the knob can be turned all the way to the right in the first place. When it's turned halfway to the right, the water becomes incredibly hot. What happens when it's turn all the way to the right? Does the water evaporate before it comes out of the pipes?! Even if you are lucky enough to find that comfortable temperature, after about a minute or so, the temperature will change on its own. This means, you have to start the entire process over again.

Another problem with hotel showers, is that they have no water pressure. Your sink has more water pressure than their showers do. This can become a problem since the shampoo they give you is extremely thick. To rinse your hair, you have to stand there for like a half hour while the water drips on your head. I'm sure this saves the hotel a lot of water, but it also makes for a really frustrating shower.

The water pressure problem might be hard for hotels to fix, and I can accept that. They have no excuse for continuing to use the one knob system however. Why don't they just add another knob and make everyone's lives easier? Add another knob already!

I feel much better now that I've vented.
