(Randall Batinkoff), is spotted at the Port Authority bus station by Duke
(Dale Midkiff), a pimp. Cookie is soon working for Duke and is introduced
to the harsh, brutal world that comprises the underground life. Midkiff
gives a tour-de-force performance that is well supported by a fine
cast of
character actors. Julie Newmar is a particular standout as an old hand at
the street life. Director Joan Freeman, who co-wrote the screenplay with
her husband, Robert Alden, shows a remarkable talent for capturing the
sights and sounds of this seamy world. Freeman works a gritty realism into
the formula story, creating an always-fascinating tale from an ugly
