Xena RPG
The Original

Hello, warrior chum! You've just entered the exciting world of role play! Xena is over there by the river catching fish...Gabrielle is writing dramatically on her scrolls...Hercules and Iolaus are saving a damsel in distress while Ares and Discord plot some evil plan...and Joxer...well, Joxer is just being Joxer.

This is the FIRST EVER Xena RPG - THE ORIGINAL - created by me, Becky Dunne in the spring of 1998. I played the original Xena until March of '99, and then turned the game over to a committee of players. But now I'm back and improving this site, as well as playing Xena again and a new character I created - Rybecia.

This list is pretty big. Expect to get 15-50 emails daily. Please take a moment to review this entire page - it's very important and will only take you a few minutes! Yes, I know your eager to join and start playing...you're just jumping in her seat, aren't ya? But lets just go over the rules and serious stuff now and get it out of the way, okay?

The Xena RPG is designed for the sole purpose of fun! You will get many e-mails daily which you will respond to "in character." If you think your mail box is getting swamped with RPG messages, we suggest you get an entirely different e-mail service (like Hotmail or Yahoo) so you can keep your RPG messages separate from your every day e-mails.

So, wanna join? You can create your own character, or play one from XWP, HTLJ, Young Hercules, or Greek mythology. You can even be a GOD if you want to! (Of course, we all know you can't hii-iiide from a God!) Check out the Character List and see the characters we need and the ones that are playing. You can play up to 3 characters. But, if you were going to play Zeus, it wouldn't be fair to let you play Ares too. If you want to be related to a certain character, OK it with us and the person who plays that character first. Also, for the time being, we don't really need too many more gods - all the ones from the show are pretty much taken. So we are encouraging people to choose mortal characters only for right now.

If you know who you would like to play, submit your character here.

After you submit your character, you need to join the mailing list. ONElist has made subscribing to the list very easy. All you have to do is enter your email addy in the box below and follow the instructions on the next page.

As soon as you suscribe to the mailing list, I'll add your character(s) to the Character List. Please note that I'm a busy girl! It may take me a few days...but don't worry about it! Begin playing whenever you want and jump in!

The address for the list is xena_role_play@onelist.com. You can start posting role play messages to that address whenever you're ready; your message will be forwarded to all subscribers. We suggest you review the last couple of days of "archived" messages at Onelist before posting your first "in-game" message. Most of the main characters (Xena, Gabrielle, Ares, Callisto, etc.) are already taken, and involved in an existing plotline, so you may want to see where they are and what they are doing first. That way you won't type a post saying that you encounter Xena in Athens when she's really in the middle of a battle in Corinth.

If you'd like a fairly up-to-date description of what's going on in the game, although a very subjective and tongue-in-cheek one, go to:
http://www.angelfire.com/sc/joxerfan/rpg.update.html

Just remember - this is a Xena-based roleplay game, and not Dungeons and Dragons. So choose a warlord like Draco, a demi-god like Morrigan, or a heroine like Nebula, and not an all-powerful Arch-Druid or Paladin Lord, or a Buffy-style vampire!

After that's all taken care of, you're ready to role play! Have fun! Remember, we will not tolerate "dirty playing." Don't try to control other players' characters, and don't kill off anyone without their permission. (You can always work out plotlines with other players via personal e-mail or ICQ.) Please, no "S" words besides shoot, no "D" words besides darn and no "F" words besides fiddle sticks! ("Son of a Bacchae" might be acceptable, however!) Let's keep this mailing list fun and safe. This game is for players 13 and older, and we don't want to antagonize any parents, or corrupt any young minds any further than they are corrupted already.

*AND PLEASE KEEP ANY ARGUMENTS, ESPECIALLY NON-GAME-RELATED ONES, OUTSIDE OF THE GAME - USE YOUR PERSONAL E-MAIL, ICQ, OR THE TELEPHONE!*

If any of this happens you will be thrown out of the game. This doesn't mean you can't have battles or cast spells! A good bloody battle or an evil curse is great! Just don't get too carried away!

The 5 complaint rule: If there's a annoying or obnoxious player in the RPG which you don't get along with, complain. We prefer to get 5 complaints from 5 different people on the list to kick the person off the list. On the other hand, if he/she is really rude, we'll only need one complaint - OUR OWN to throw him/her outta here! NOTE: If you have a serious complaint, and we do mean *serious*, with the moderators or something they've done, take it to the group as a whole and we'll let democracy rule.

We are not playing by the book. Things don't have to go exactly how they do in the show. Solan can be alive and well and traveling with Xena, Zeus can have brown hair instead of white hair if he wishes. Apollo can be a good guy. That's the fun thing about the game...you can change stuff around and play with idea's. :-) Do try to stay within the general framework of the show, however, and/or Greek mythology.

There is a consequence if you are inactive in the RPG for long, without giving any notice. If there hasn't been any action with your character for a few weeks or so, we will email you and ask you what's up. Some players abandon their email addy and forget the RPG entirely, or lose access to the net. If we don't get any reply, we may unsubscribe you from the list, and/or throw your character up for grabs. This is not meant to seem harsh, but a plotline can come to a screeching halt if it revolves around Gabrielle, for example, and Gabrielle is nowhere to be found. Please, when you're going to be absent for a period of time, let us know.

Important: Please notify us if you change your email addy. When you go to the user center at ONElist and unsubscribe your old addy, from our point of view, it looks like you left the game. So, TELL US! Or we'll accidentally delete your character from the Character List, thinking you left.

Also, a special note for the gods playing. We've had some instances before when gods or people with magical powers have been "over doing it." Granted, when you're a god, you have the power to do anything! But then, what do us mortals do when we can't wave our hand and save the world? Please, let's keep our magical powers under control. And by the way, there is no Dahak in this game. We destroyed him last Spring, and he is gone for good. Period.

Remember: Always write in the third person. Instead of "I went to Poteidaia." I should write it as, "Xena went to Poteidaia." Okay? :) And while not essential, it would be helpful to write in paragraph format, rather than write one line, hit "send," write another line, hit "send," etc. That way you can also describe what your character is thinking, what's going on around them, etc. And remember to check out the Character List before submitting your character!
