Cherished Friends

God must have known there would be times
We'd need a word of cheer
Someone to praise a triumph
Or brush away a tear.

He must have known we'd need to share
The joy of "little things"
In order to appreciate
The happiness life brings.

I think he knew our troubled hearts
Would sometimes throb with pain
At trials and misfortunes
Or some goals we can't attain.

He knew we'd need the comfort
Of an understanding heart
To give us strength and courage
To make a fresh, new start.

He knew we'd need companionship
Unselfish...lasting...true,
And so God answered the heart's great need

With a CHERISHED FRIEND....like you.

Rites of Passage

Some of the most poignant moments I spend as a veterinarian are those
spent with my clients assisting the transition of my animal patients
from this world to the next. When living becomes a burden, whether fom pain or loss of normal functions, I can help a family by ensuring
that their beloved pet has an easy passing. Making this final decision
is painful, and I have often felt powerless to comfort the grieving
owners. That was before I met Shane. I had been called to examine a
ten-year-old blue heeler named Belker who had developed a serious health problem. The dog's owners - Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane - were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker, and offered to perform
the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made
arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for the four-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt Shane could learn something from the experience. The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why." Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me - I'd never heard a more comforting explanation. He said, "Everybody is born so that they can learn how to live a good life - like loving everybody and being nice, right?" The four-year-old continued, "Well, animals already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."
You mean.....

Because you mean so much to me,

More than words could ever say,

I want you to know I think of you,

Each and every precious day.

You are so very special to me,

In everything you do,

I know you mean much more to me

Than I'll ever mean to you.

But, I need for you to remember,

And just for you to know.....

No matter what comes between us,

That my love for you does grow.

And, pretty soon, you'll have to see

Just how much.....

You really mean to me.

HUSH

Hush sweet baby, be still, now don't you cry
Your guardian angel will show you how to fly
Remember our hypnotic rhythm
Our secret places, our own prison
Savor the brutality of departure
Reveal yourself in my light, rapture
I will not be denied one last time
Your scent, your feel, was once mine
Forget the moment in our urgency, do not fear
Come to me, let me taste the salt of your tears
Desire and anger are deadly
You my love, make me heady
I must depart, hush my love
fold against me like a glove
Don't be a victim to gloom, hold on true
For if I could, I would not leave you.
I take your heart with me, I vow
And I despair to leave you now
But someday, another will mold to you
And another wish of yours will come true
If you wish hard enough but can't quite and are alone
Run, run my love to the field where our love was grown
Embrace a living thing, a tree
Cry your tears, kiss a bee
Wave to a bird, spin about in the grass
But to your dreams and hopes, hold fast.
Dream of unicorns and be young, make a start
Invade another's empty, sorrowful heart
Tickle a colorful, fancy fish in a cool brook
Flirt with a frog and steal a pirate's hook
Blow bubbles in your milkshake
Make a mess and enjoy your mistakes.
Chase a rainbow and never stop
Laugh and cry, ride a mop
Be yourself, as I know you to be
And when you're afraid, remember me.
So hush my sweet one, I must go my love
Talk to me at times up above.

Winning the race (Good one)

A few years ago at the Seattle Special Olympics, nine contestants, all
physically or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for the
100-yard dash. At the gun, they all started out, not exactly in a dash,
but with a relish to run the race to the finish and win.
All, that is, except one boy who stumbled on the asphalt, tumbled over a
couple of times and began to cry. The other eight heard the boy cry.
They slowed down and looked back. They all turned around and went back.
Every one of them. One girl with Down's Syndrome bent down and kissed him and said, "This
will make it better." All nine linked arms and walked across the finish line together.
Everyone in the stadium stood, and the cheering went on for several
minutes. People who were there are still telling the story. Why?
Because deep down we know this one thing: What matters in this life is more than winning for ourselves. What truly matters in this life is helping others in their race, even if it means
slowing down and changing our course.

Water
A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on each end of
a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it,
and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion
of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the masters
house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went
on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of
water in his masters house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its
accomplishments, perfect to the end for which it was made. But the
poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that
it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do. After
two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the
water bearer one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, and I want to
apologize to you." "Why?" asked the bearer. "What are you ashamed of?
"I have been able, for these past two years, to deliver only half my
load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way
back to your masters house. Because of my flaws, you have to do all of this work,
and you don't get full value from your efforts." , the pot said.
The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in his compassion
he said, "As we return to the masters house, I want you to notice
the beautiful flowers along the path."
Indeed, as they went up the hill, the old cracked pot took notice of
the sun warming the beautiful wild flowers on the side of the path, and
this cheered it some. But at the end of the trail, it still felt bad because it
had leaked out half its load, and so again the Pot apologized to the
bearer for its failure. The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers
only on your side of your path, but not on the other pots side? That's
because I have always known about your flaw, and I took advantage of it.
I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we
walk back from the stream, you've watered them. For two years I have
been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my masters table.
Without  you being just the way you are, he would not have this beauty to grace
his house." Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots. But if
we will allow it, the Creator will use our flaws to grace the Universe.
In the Creator's great economy, nothing goes to waste. Don't be afraid
of our flaws. Acknowledge them, and you too can be the cause of beauty. Know that
in our weakness we find our strength.

When I say, "I'm a Christian" by: Carol Wimmer

When I say... "I'm a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I am saved"
I'm whispering "I get lost"
"That's why I chose this way"
When I say... "I'm a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need someone to be my guide
When I say... "I'm a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong
I'm professing that I'm weak
and pray for strength to carry on|
When I say... "I'm a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success
I'm admitting I have failed
and cannot ever pay the debt
When I say... "I'm a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
my flaws are all too visible
but God believes I'm worth it
When I say... "I'm a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain
I have my share of heartaches
which is why I seek His name
When I say... "I'm a Christian"
I do not wish to judge
I have no authority
I only know I'm loved.
I hope this can lift you up as much as it did me. Be a
friend, forward this to someone you know. We all need this
type of encouragement.

Written with a pen
§ealed with a kiss,
If you love me, please answer me this:
Do you love me, or do you not?
You told me once, but I forgot
§o tell me now and tell me true
§o I can tell you that I love you
Of all the others I've ever met,
¥ou are the one I won't forget.
And if I die before you do
I'll go to Heaven and wait for you
If you are not there on Judgement Day
I'll know you went the other way
I'll give the Ångel's back their wings,
And risk the loss of everything.
Just to prove my love is true,
I'll go to Hell to be with you.

VOICE OF GOD

A WOMAN WAS SHOPPING AT THE TUTTLE MALL IN COLUMBUS, MO. SHE CAME OUT
TO HER CAR AND SAW SHE HAD A FLAT TIRE. SHE GOT HER JACK AND SPARE
OUT OF THE TRUNK OF THE CAR AND PROCEEDED TO CHANGE THE TIRE. A MAN IN
A BUSINESS SUIT CAME UP AND STARTED TO HELP HER. WHEN THE
TIRE HAD BEEN REPLACED, HE ASKED FOR A RIDE TO HIS CAR ON THE OPPOSITE
SIDE OF THE MALL. FEELING UNCOMFORTABLE ABOUT GIVING THE MAN A RIDE TO
HIS CAR, SHE ASKED WHY HE WAS ON THIS SIDE OF THE MALL IF HIS CAR WAS ON
THE OTHER SIDE. HE CLAIMED HE HAD BEEN TALKING TO SOME FRIENDS. STILL
UNCOMFORTABLE, SHE TOLD HIM THAT SHE HAD JUST REMEMBERED SOMETHING SHE
HAD FORGOTTEN TO PICK UP IN THE MALL AND SHE LEFT HIM AND WENT BACK
INSIDE THE MALL. SHE REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO THE MALL SECURITY AND
THEY WENT OUT TO HER CAR. THE MAN WAS NOWHERE IN SIGHT. OPENING HER
TRUNK, SHE DISCOVERED A BRIEFCASE THE MAN HAD SET INSIDE HER TRUNK WHILE
HELPING HER WITH THE TIRE. INSIDE WERE ROPE AND A BUTCHER KNIFE!! WHEN
SHE TOOK THE TIRE TO BE FIXED, THE MECHANIC INFORMED HER THAT THERE WAS
NOTHING WRONG WITH HER TIRE. HE ALSO TOLD HER THAT THE TIRE WAS FLAT
BECAUSE THE AIR HAD BEEN LET OUT OF IT.
PLEASE BE SAFE AND NOT SORRY. EVEN THOUGH THIS HAPPENED IN COLUMBUS,
MO., IT COULD HAPPEN ANYWHERE. JUST A WARNING TO ALWAYS BE ALERT AND
AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. NEVER LET YOUR GUARD DOWN. SOMETIMES THAT
FEELING IN YOUR GUT IS THE VOICE OF GOD!!

Your are the person to laugh at this page as of 9/26/98
