In the last two years Kamal's movies have been outright comedies with movies like THENALI, PAMAL K. SAMBHANTHAM & PANCHATHANTHIRAM. While his other two movies; HEY RAM & AALAVANDHAN were serious ventures. In ANBEY SIVAM , we have a mixture of both comedy & serious role with a bit of triangular love story thrown in. Kamal has altered his look in this movie with a face deformed by deep cuts,broken teeth, and wears thick pair of glasses. Seeing Kamal looks in the airport Madhavan asume that he is a terorist and informs the police. The Police then release Kamal after checking him. Madhavan is returning from overseas for his wedding in Chennai.
Nallasivam (Kamalhassan) and Anbarasu (Madhavan) are then thrown together for four days while travelling together travelling from Bhuvanesvar to Chennai They travel by plane,train and car and are sometimes forced to put up for the night together due to bad whether.
Anbaarasu a self centred, nervous, blabbering advertisment producer. While Nallsivam is reserved and caring. Nallasivam is always advising Anbarasu on the right way of doing things but Anbarasu find that is irritating nagging and never listens to the advise and get himself hurt most of the time. This is where the homour comes in. They both continue their journey and by the end of thier journey they become very close.
In a flashback (This is where Kamal face is normal) Kamal is seen falling in love with the daughter (Kiran) of a rich factory owner (Nasser) but part due to and accident. Later in present time Kiran is seen as the future bride for Madhavan........
The movie is a treat for Kamal & Madhavan fans. They humoures antics are entertaining. You also get to see flood hit areas, train crash, and a bus hurtling down a cliff and action scenes which are well picturised. Vidyasagar's five songs are yet to become popular, The title track "Yaar Yaar Sivam" is melodious & sentimental. Kiran who acted in GEMINI and VILLAN apears only in a few scenes shows that she can act in emotinal scenes.Overall the movie is a good movie for family viewing.
