Susi Ganesan the assitant of director Maniratnam directed this movie, and it is produced by Maniratnam himself.FIVE STAR tells the tale of friendship of five friends and how they manage to remain as friends without faling in love with each other.
Prabhu(Prasanna), Ilango(Krishna), Sundar(Karthik), Priya and Indra are the best friends in college, they promise to never lose touch with one another later in life and manage to get jobs in the same company.But Ilango (who is brought back to village by his father is forced to wed Easwari(Kanika)),requests to be posted in Bombay.He later runs away while his friends assume he is in bombay with his new wife.After a few years the remaining four continue to work in the same company and they live together in one house. One day Prabhu meets Eeswari on the train and not knowing that she is Ilango's wife, Prabhu falls in love with her Even after knowing this, Easwari forgives Prabhu and she becomes good friends with the gang while they promise to find Ilango and reunite him with her. How the friends help Easwari to find Ilango forms the rest of the story.
The story of friends who remain as friends and never fall in love with each other is something new to tamil movie. This movie is one of the movie that is worth watching.
