Welcome to the New Zealand Cinemas Pages. I have been in the hobby
of collecting information on the history of the cinemas of The Long White
Cloud since 1973, when at the age of 22 opened my first cinema in the small
town of Milton, Otago. Between 1973 and 1980, trading as Knewstubb Theatres,
went on to take over three closed Otago cinemas. These, unfortunately have
all since closed, between 1976 and 1982. From this, I continued to collect
information on New Zealand cinemas as a hobby under the unofficial title
of Library of Cinema Research Data. Much of New Zealand's early cinema
history has all but disappeared. I am pleased to share with you what I
have unearthed since I began researching the cinema world and hope you
find it as interesting as I have. Along with New Zealand's cinema, I am
all so interested in Australian, Great Britain and American cinemas.
I belong to the Australian Cinema and Theatre Society Inc., and Cinema
Theatre Association (Great Britain). New Zealand, like the rest of the
world has rediscovered the cinema through the multiplexes. Over the next
few months additional information will be added fortnightly to this site,
so watch for additional information.
