Blown Away starring Jeff Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones blasts your senses with as "The Calgary Sun" put it, "A devastating, thrill-a-minute, stop-your-heart thriller. Easily one of the year's best."

Finished in 1997 with a running time of 2 hours 1 minute, I found myself NOT counting the seconds as they ticked by--only the rapid ticks of my heartbeats.

In this role Tommy Lee is fantastic, demented, intelligent, so bizarre in his obsession that his insantity is as darkly tantilizing as he is frightening. Tommy Lee plays Gaerity, a bomb-making mentor at odds with Bridges (Jimmy Dove), a Boston bomb squad expert.

Not only the variety of bombs and the bomb explosions blew me away as a first-time watcher of this flick, but also the subtleties and one-line screws that drilled their way home bit-by-bit, each reinforcing Gaerity's personality (like him calling a pigeon 'bitch' as he pokes her off her roost--loved it) but also the idea that Gaerity is as intelligent as he is dangerous. Smashing!

Small note: sorry the pics are so dark here and there. The majority of the film takes place at night or indoors, so the lighting and clarity for grabs was tough going. Still, some are fantastic. I especially like the eye shot and the sniffing the nitro shot and the final explosion shot and the, and the, and the . . . (pant, pant). Hope you like them, too.

In jail just before the breakout. Gaerity passed the Catholic sign of the cross over his bud-lover in jail; then later, took a knife and stabbed him to death while he slept with the same hand. That's Gaerity for you.
Gaerity boozing with broads. He sees his old enemy, Bridges, on a local t.v. news bite. Revenge is then on Gaerity's menu.
After Gaerity sets his heart on revenge, he seems to be everywhere, spying to gather the habits of his soon-to-be victims--anyone and everyone associated with Bridges (Dove).
