The Christopher Walken And Jay Mohr Show

Before playing the villain opposite Tom Cruise in "Jerry Maguire," Jay Mohr was best known for impersonating Christopher Walken on "Saturday Night Live." So what happened when the two were cast together in the new crime caper, "Suicide Kings?" Mohr brought "SNL" tapes to the set and proudly played them for Walken.

Happily, Walken was tickled by the tapes.

"It's very funny," says Walken. "Jay used to do me on the set. He would do me playing my part for the movie. I ended up imitating Jay's impersonation of me for my role."

Walken even gave Mohr some helpful hints. "Chris told us that when he gets a script, he crosses out all commas and periods - all punctuation," Mohr reports. "So that's basically what the impression is."

Now Mohr and Walken want to take their act to the next level.

"We had an idea that we would go on a show and interview each other," Walken says. "It would be called 'Did You Know - With Christopher Walken and Christopher Walken.' It would seem like I'm talking to myself."

Walken has become such an icon in the independent film world with his chalky white, creepy characterizations, it's difficult to believe that he grew up a simple baker's son in Queens, New York. He started acting as a child in the early days of television and was actually a professional dancer at one time.

"When I was a kid, I used to be in musicals," he recalls. "That's my training. I'd like to get roles again where I could dance, but they're not offered to me. I think if I had been born 30 years earlier, I probably would have made a lot of movies like that. But I never go dancing for fun. You have to pay me."

One thing Walken will do for free is cook. In fact, he fancies himself a chef.

"One thing I'll always remember about Chris is that he eats the strangest food of anyone I've ever met," Mohr notes. "He would have a cup of something that looked like chicken soup, and I'd ask him what it was. He'd say, 'Scallops and parsley. And I wash it down with castor oil.' He never had anything simple like a sandwich."

Walken's passion for cooking is not just an idle pleasure, however. He has a definitive goal for his culinary talents.

"I'd like to have a cooking show on cable," he states boldly. "I would invite people on, like Jay, because I believe everybody's got a dish they can cook. And I want to have an assistant, a huge, statuesque showgirl with very long fingernails. Every time she cuts my vegetables - 'cause I need a lot of diced vegetables - she's always slicing off her fingernails. It would be a nightmare. A delicious nightmare."
