AMANDA
Amanda Derieux was born in 9th century Normandy, and she is still alive. She is of a secret race of people who are immortal. She cannot die unless her head is severed and her power taken. This power, known only as the Quickening, is the immortals life force. With each taken head, they take on the experience, knowledge and strength possesed. Amanda has had a long life, known as one of the worlds most adventurous, and uncatcable theives, she has stolen items thought unstealable. Jewels, paintings, money, just about anything she so wishes, and she has almost never been caught. She's lived 1200 years without looking back, without taking resposiblilty for her actions. Now a catastophe has opened her eyes.

While being investigated for a crime she didn't commit, a police officer named Claudia Hoffman jumped in front of a bullet to save her life, not knowing she was immortal. Both thrown and saddened by Claudia's sacrafice for her life, Amanda has begun to see a new light on things. She's turned to see what she's done, and found some that weigh heavily on her new found conscience.

She's survived plagues, wars, which hunts, sinking with the Titanic and the Maria Rose, but will she be able to survive a conscience and the memories of all she's done? There to help her with her struggle, and sometimes add to it, is the new man in her life, Nick Wolfe. Claudia's partner and now Amanda's, they butt heads at regular intervals. But when she truly needs him, he always seems to be there.

Will she truly change? Can she actually straighten out after 1200 years of bad habits? Only time will tell.

She died her first death in Normandy, during the plague. She was starving, and stole some bread from a plague ridden home. For this she was beaten to death. She was trained in the ways of the game by Rebecca, and upon the completion of her studies was given a peice of the Methuselah Crystal. She herself has had a couple students. The evil Kenny, who must live life the size of an 8 year old. And Michelle, a pianist who was murdered so a greedy immortal could have her talents to himself forever. For the last thirty years, she has roomed with Lucy Becker, the widdow of one of Amanda's old lovers Marco Becker. Lucy manages to keep Amanda in line while in her presence, but doesn't even try when she leaves.
