PLACES TO GO... THINGS TODO...
The World Outside Video a Go-Go

FIRST COUSINS -- LINKS TO PLACES I'M INVOLVED WITH

Evan Dorkin and Sarah Dyer are two comic book artists/writers that also do work for Space Ghost: Coast to Coast.  Here is an interview I did.  With them.  Originally published in The UWM Post.

David DeCoteau is the director of Leather Jacket Love Story, Skeletons and Test Tube Teens from the Year 2000.  This interview was also published in Gab Magazine.

Shock Cinema is Steve Puchalski's excellent magazine that I humbly submit reviews to.  A couple reviews of mine in the last issue, some in the next.

VideoScope is a damn fine piece of work itself, more concerned with new releases.  There's a review of Terror 2000 of mine in the latest issue.

Stumped at the Video Store - For those who are stumped.  At the video store, that is.  And not, for example, at an all-night wicker shop.

Bad Movie Planet is your one-stop source for entertaining B-product on the web.

The Chicago Psychotronic Film Society features reviews, rants, and updates on future screenings of oddball cinema.  I'll apparently be doing reviews for them in the future.

SITES FOR ACTORS WORTH CARING ABOUT (or, if I was casting a big-budget drive-in flick, who'd get a paycheck)
Ezra Buzzington is an odd-looking guy who's in the upcoming film adaption of Dan Clowes' Ghost World.  He was also in Fight Club and the terminally underseen The Woman Chaser, which I'll get around to reviewing someday.

Dean Cameron was that guy in Summer School and Bad Dreams, and the best part of both Ski School films.  His cameo as an anal-retentive video store owner in Kicking and Screaming is must viewing.  He maintains his own site, and yes, even answers his E-mail.  His site contains a floating head of Crispin Glover, which is probably one of the most disturbing things on the web.

Dennis Christopher has a strange appeal.. even in totally unsympathetic parts (like Fear No Evil), he comes across as an interesting character.  His other films include Skeletons, It's My Party, Necronomicon, Chariots of Fire and the (soon-to-be-reviewed) Didn't You Hear.

Eddie Deezen is a big Beatles fan.  Take his Beatles quiz and don't ask him about A Polish Vampire in Burbank.

Andrew Divoff starred as the Djinn in both Wishmaster films.  He was also under heavy make-up in the Oblivion movies.  He's worked with Albert Pyun several times, but he's a fine actor anyway.  Amazingly, he maintains his own site.

Brad Dourif makes even bad movies good.  He is as creepy as the floating head of Crispin Glover.

John Dulaney was paired with Jack Palance in The Cop in Blue Jeans.  He worked with Fellini on Roma and appeared in loads of other Italian exploitation flicks.  An underrated grizzled actor, he now maintains his own site.

You WILL go to the site of R. Lee Ermey NOW, Pyle!

The career of Stephen Geoffreys fascinates me.  He went from teen character actor (Fraternity Vacation, Heaven Help Us) to horror movie staple (Fright Night, The Chair, 976-EVIL) to gay porn star (Hard Lessons)... This man demands some sort of cult following, but I don't think such a cult exists.  This page is good, but it skips over his later stuff, which makes him all the more curious. "There's no such thing as vampires, fruitcake!"

Jon Gries is a character actor best known to me for his roles in Fright Night Part II, Heads, Real Genius and    Pucker Up and Bark Like a Dog.  He's best known by other people for "The Pretender," which is apparently some sort of "Television series."  As site host Tina Acord has informed me.  It's the official Jon Gries website.

The late Brion James lived hard, died young.  You may recall him from his roles in Blade Runner (as Leon the
Replicant), The Fifth Element or the 48 Hrs. films, but for my money, you can't beat James in Crimewave, the Coen Bros./Sam Raimi movie nobody wants to talk about.

Buck Kartalian was in the dumb softcore classic Please Don't Eat My Mother, the dumber LSD classic The Acid Eaters, the just plain classic Planet of the Apes and The Rock.  With a filmography like that, how could you not love him?  Okay, so he sort of looks like Joe E. Ross, but that's not his fault.

The George Kennedy Appreciation Society is, well, pretty self-explanatory.

Jamie Kennedy is not related to George Kennedy.  Normally I steer clear of recommending sites geared towards what could be perceieved as "teen beat"-aged stars, but Kennedy's just too entertainingly awkward to be ignored.  This is a great site, too.

The sort of man I'd even sit through Armageddon to watch. Udo Kier can steal scenes just by showing up.  Those eyes, that voice...  and this is a site that's nearly as good as the man himself.

I'm sorry, but John Phillip Law is just hot in Danger: Diabolik.  And in Barbarella.  And even in Skidoo, for chrissakes.  And there he was a filthy hippie.  Style, class, good looks, eyes you could cook a steak on... grrr..

Paul Lynde!

Roddy McDowall is a legend.  This is the best site I've found on the man.

Karen Mistal is the actress Kathy Ireland wants to be.  She was in The Return of the Killer Tomatoes and Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death and promptly vanished from the face of the Earth.  Where are you, Karen?

Big-chinned Charles Napier was Harry in Cherry, Harry and Raquel, and got his face ripped off in The Silence of the Lambs. You gotta love 'im.  He's also been in both Austin Powers films, along with character actor maestros Clint Howard, Mindy Sterling, Seth Green and Michael York.

Tom Noonan is now more of a writer/director than an actor, but he was still incredible in Mystery Train and Manhunter, and his directorial debut, What Happened Was... is my favorite date film of all time.  His new film is Wang Dang, and I will see it as soon as humanly possible.

Miguel A. Nunez Jr. was in The Return of the Living Dead and a bunch of other movies.  He played Dee Jay in the ill-fated Street Fighter movie. You'll recognize him.  A versitile, underrated actor that really ought to get some eye-catching part one of these days.

Chris Owen is another kid (well, 19-year-old) actor, but his work in flicks like American Pie, October Sky, She's All That and the like have made me think he's a character actor to watch.  He's the gawky red-headed kid.  He is not the guy who played Malichi in Children of the Corn.  He runs his own site.

I met Jeremy Piven's parents once--I was working at Tower and they were buying him a copy of either 8 1/2 or Children of Paradise for his birthday.  Having been a fan because if PCU, Car 54 Where Are You and his one-line bit in Floundering, they told me he was in Miami Rhapsody, which I immediately watched.  This site doesn't seem to have any input from Piven or his equally-talented folks, but it's good anyway.

John Saxon has appeared in more movies than the average person can ever see in their entire lives.  And some of them are watchable!  Now he answers questions about acting and the whole film thing.  Death House may be a sore point, so best to watch yourself.

Everyone's favorite horror movie mom Dee Wallace Stone...

..and everyone's, um, favorite TV dad Alan Thicke.

Big, bad Brian Thompson is in a lot of crappy movies, but he should be where Dolph Lundgren is today.  No, wait, he deserves better.  For print B.T., check out Fright Night Part II, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and his great little bit part in Miracle Mile.

Mary Woronov played Miss Togar in Rock'n'Roll High School (and, if you're gonna get picky, was also in Rock'n'Roll High School Forever, but let's just pretend that didn't exist, shall we?) and wrote the highly recommeded autobiography "Swimming Underground: My Life in the Factory."  Her sneer at a rock video was the best part of TerrorVision.  Great site for an amazingly talented lady.

Stomp Toyko's Pia Zadora: The Mystery site is the most Pia-rific place on the web. Features filmography, pics, and her Spin interview with Joey Ramone.

IT IS NOT THE DIRECTOR THAT IS PERVERSE, BUT THE MOVIE IN WHICH HE IS IN CHARGE

I rarely hear nice things about his films, but surely I'm not the only one who likes Ralph Bakshi.

Bruce La Bruce is an underground queer film director who has managed to evade success and critical appreciation for years.  His latest is the hardcore Skin Gang.

The Maysles Brothers were one of the biggest influences of the American documentary form, helming the concert film classic Gimme Shelter along with the brilliant Salesman, Grey Gardens and Showman.

Michael Weldon once said "If you like Andy Milligan, there's no hope for you."  I like Andy Milligan.

There is a website devoted to the barely-watchable films of Albert Pyun.  Hide your children.

Experience the amazing work of Jan Svankmajer: Alchemist of the Surreal.  If you haven't seen Alice, Faust, or Conspirators of Pleasure, what the hell are you waiting for?

GOOD MOVIE FAN PAGES

Mondo Erotico: The films of Radley Metzger

Transformers: The Movie is an amazing page filled with more than you'd ever want to know.

Trekkies: The Website - The website of the movie of the people of the biggest fanboy phenomenon of all.

The Unknown Movies Page is similar to this site in terms of reviews, and Keith's got more of 'em.

The Wide World of Movies is a nifty site with loads of reviews and the like with a similar sort of "whatever-the-hell-comes-to-mind" concept when picking which flicks to check out.  Highly recommended.

OTHER CREAMY GOODNESS

TelStar Web's page devoted to one of the most underrated of music producers, Mr. Joe Meek.

Everybody loves hearing about a good Bus Plunge....

Have you been saved?  Probably not.  Let Chick Publications show you the way.

Transmetropolitan is a comic book that does not stink.  It concerns journalism.  In the future.  Because the future is a really hip place to be right now.

Experience the political stylings of Reason Magazine Online.

Lance Olson wrote the book Tonguing the Zeitgeist, which, despite being kinda cyberpunky, is really damn good.  You really should get off your lazy ass and pick up a book once in a while instead of just watching crummy old movies nobody cares about, you know.

Look, just link here, okay?  I don't even want to think about explaining this one.

I own an Atari Jaguar and an Atari Lynx.  I have no excuse; I'm just an Atari whore, okay?  Believe it or not, they're still making games for both systems.  Check out the latest Atari News.

Brill's Content.  While it still exists.

Be suspicious.  Read Extra, a fine magazine of media watchdoggery.

The Blockbuster Video Customers Suck page is devoted to video clerks whining about lousy customers.

Blockbuster Video Sucks is an entirely different matter, devoted to one guy whining about how much Blockbuster itself sucks.  It's a good-looking site, if low on updates.
