Chapter 15 . They had been sitting at the police station the whole night. And the night before that. This was not the way it was supposed to go. And this was not the impression he was supposed to make on Gia’s mother. Gia…if Helena had hurt her…he knew it was Helena….he consoled himself that Chloe was probably the target, not Gia…that was a horrible thought…. “Nikolas…” “Yes, Uncle…you should go home…the Lieutenant assures me that Commissioner Scorpio and his people are doing everything they can….” “Uncle, you are the last person to tell me how skilled the PCPD is…” “True…true…usually I would call their performance shoddy, but that is giving them too much credit. I can only hope that the Lieutenant’s personal interest in this raises their performance.” “It has to…” “I have my own men looking for them as well, Nikolas…Mother will not get away with this…” “Have they found her?” “The yacht left the harbor the day before yesterday…I am told she is attending a wine tasting in Manhattan this evening…” “She still did it…Where are they? It’s been almost two days…” “I know, Nikolas…I know…and if anything has happened to either of them….Mother will pay.…” Commisioner Scorpio cleared his throat behind them…. “I hate to interrupt the family bonding, but I have news I think you’d like to hear….” “Yes, Commissioner…” “They’ve found them…” “Where…” “Gia just walked into the emergency room at GH….Chloe was lying on the sidewalk outside…” “Are they all right?” “I don’t know…”… *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Nikolas ran into the ER and stopped the first person he saw, who happened to be his aunt Amy… “Where is she…?” Bobbie approached him from behind as Stefan entered. “Nikolas…she’s right over here…” “Thanks, Bobbie…” “Barbara…” “Stefan, I’m afraid they’re still working on Chloe…..” “Was she hurt badly?” “I’m sorry….I don’t know…..” “Bobbie…where did you say Gia was…” “She’s right over here…..” Gia was lying on a gurney in a small exam room off the hall…she had a bandage on her head and she was hooked to an IV… “Hey, there Sparky….” “Hey….” “How are you feeling….” “Just a little woozy…A little nauseous..” He touched the bandage…and kissed her gently on the forehead…. “They didn’t hurt you, did they….” “I …I don’t remember much…I remember Chloe and I were driving home…there was a truck…” “Hey…slow down…just go as fast as you can…” “And some guys got out of the truck…I asked them why they were hogging the road….then I couldn’t breathe…” “They found a gas canister in the back seat….” “So how’d I hurt my head…” “There was blood on the steering wheel…did you hit your head…?” “I must have…Nikolas…” “Yeah…” “What is this about…?” “My grandmother….” Amy stuck her head in…. “Excuse me, Nikolas, but I’ve got to draw some blood from Miss Campbell here..” “Do me a favor, and do it quick…I don’t like seeing people stick needles into her,” he grinned as he and Gia stared at each other…. “For my prince of a nephew….sure…” *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* While Nikolas was seeing about Gia, Stefan waited for any word on Chloe. Eventually, Dr. Jones opened the door. “Doctor…how is she…the baby….” “Stefan….you had better sit down….” “Doctor I assure you I want to waste no time on pleasantries. Just tell me. How is Chloe….” “Chloe will be fine…She was hemorrhaging pretty severely but we managed to stop that… ” “And the baby…” “Stefan….I’m afraid that Chloe has been…” “What, Dr. Jones…” “Chloe is no longer pregnant…” Stefan’s face fell…. “And she never will be again…” Stefan looked up quickly…. “What do you mean…?!” “Someone has performed….well…a kind of ad-hoc hysterectomy on Chloe..” “You mean…” “Someone has removed her uterus…and not very skillfully….” Blood started to spill from Stefan’s hands as his fingers dug into his palm…. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Nikolas and Gia held each other, Nikolas gently rocking back and forth… “So …” “So what…” “So did you meet my mom?” “Yeah….I did…I don’t think she likes me much though…” “I wonder why….” Dr. Ramsey walked through the curtain and checked her chart…. “Well, you’ve had quite the little experience here, haven’t you….” He then checked Gia’s pulse and stuck a thermometer in her mouth. “If that’s what you call it…” Amy brought in another chart and handed it to Dr. Ramsey…he made some check marks on the chart and was about to leave…. Gia tapped Nikolas to stop him…. “Dr. Ramsey…” “Yes..” Gia adjusted the thermometer in her mouth and said, “How’s Chloe? And the baby?” “Well, I’m not sure about Chloe, but the baby is just fine…” Nikolas’s forehead crinkled… “I don’t understand…the baby is fine but you don’t know about Chloe…” “Yes…your baby will be fine….Miss Campbell just needs to get a little rest…This early along it wasn’t in much trouble from a little knock on the head.” Gia spit her thermometer across the room…. Nikolas was dumbstruck… “What did you say….?” “Oh, you didn’t know?…Gia’s six weeks pregnant…congratulations.” They both sat in silence… “Nikolas….” “Yeah…” “Did you say my mom didn’t like you?….” “No….no she didn’t…” Chapter 16 Back to the: Library |
