SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER, AND UNCUT
- **** This movie has all the makings of a classic. I bet you haven't heard many critics say that, have you? But you have been hearing the critics raving about how funny and offensive the movie is-- and all of them agreeing how good it is. They call it excellent political satire, inlcuding Ebert, and one local newspaper said, "much the way "The Simpsons" made fun of things, except where the Simpsons used a scalpel, "South Park" used a baseball bat. I agree with all of that. It was a movie I went in knowing it would shock and knowing I'd laugh a real laugh, the ones where you're not just like, "That's funny," but you can't control your laughter. I got everything I expected, including a movie with a good message.
I used to watch the show when it exploded into popularity, but since I forgot which one was Stan and which one was Kyle. I hadn't seen much of the South Park kids in awhile, until I went to this movie. But from the rumors, I knew Trey Parker and Matt Stone would hold nothing back.
And what do I mean it has all the makings of a classic? Here's what I thought, anyway: It was animated, inspired, innovative (something we haven't seen before), satirical, timely, it had a message without preaching, and I HOPE IT KICKS EVERY MOVIE'S ASS AT THE BOX OFFICE THIS SUMMER, which it's starting to do an okay job of.
