Bavard's Exorcist Tribute

the poster Hello ! Welcome to my small tribute to THE EXORCIST! If you have been on Mars for the past 30 years and you haven't yet heard of The Exorcist then let me take you through the introductions:

The Exorcist is based on the novel by William Batty. It opens in an archeological dig in Iraq where we meet Father Merrin (played by Max Von Sydow). In those first few scenes a lot of weird stuff happens -- wild dogs fighting and Merrins's confrontation with a statue ( of whom we later find out is Pazuzu). These events all add to his feeling that something is going to happen.

The film then jumps to Washington and more characters are introduced. Regan MacNiel is a average twelve year old who's favorite toy happens to be an Ouija board, Through the game she has made in friend, in the form of Captain Howdy. This is the first hint at the super natural in the film but definitely not the last. From there we hear noises in the attic as well as see Regan get zapped, scanned, and prodded from every doctor in America until the ' oh so expensive doc's ' recommend an Exorcism -- da da dahhhhhh
Enter Father Damien Karras, a priest who just happens to be going through a religious crisis himself.

This is where it starts to get good...
From here on we see the amazing effects and brilliant performances from everyone involved, especially from Linda Blair. Good and Evil God and the Devil - Who wins? You'll have to watch and see!!!!

For a more detailed outline and review of the story go HERE

I called it a thriller instead of a horror because I don't believe it was made to scare, I believe it was made to get people to question. 'Question what?' you might ask, Well I believe it poses the unanswered question of
'Is there such a thing as GOOD and EVIL'

I am 16 years old and although, sadly, it hadn't been released on video in Britain before this year I watched an illegal copy. I like many others have heard the reports of adults sleeping with their parents after watching it and despite the films obvious power I don't put any faith in those reports. The film itself is excellant and despite my age I know what is excellant and what is crap when I see it! The Exorcist grabbed my attention from the very start and through clever camera tricks and brilliant dialogue it kept it until the credits rolled. I would recommend this to anyone with the warning 'Don't believe what you've heard' Several of my friends were disapointed with the film because 'It wasn't scary' but I appreciated it for what it was -- a classic.

Please look around my site, sign my guestbook, leave a message on my message board or if you have a Exorcist or horror / movie related page join the Exorcist Web ring!

Wow. Seven years on and this site is still here and people are still visiting it. Thanks a lot guys. I know nothing has changed since this was first created, but it wasn't until I got an email to my old account saying I was exceeding my bandwidth that I actually realised it was still active.
If any of you do find any mistakes/broken links please mention it in the guestbook and I promise to sort it out next time I pop by. Cheers!
