My Girl Scout Page

This is my 16th year in the Girl Scout program. I started my third grade year as a brownie. That summer I attended my first resident camp. Since then I have been very involved. I am a strong advocate of the Girl Scout program. I think that it offers an environment where girls can strive to be themselves. No, this isn't sexist, it is empowering for women.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT GIRL SCOUTS IS THE CAMP SONGS! I'M CURRENTLY MAKING MY OWN SONG BOOK! SLOWLY BUT SURELY YOU WILL GET MY songbook

I earned the Girl Scout Silver Award in ninth grade. It was a colaborative prject done by all the ninth graders in our troop. We took a weekend and inspected all the tents in our council and then made arrangements to have them fixed.

I finished my Girl Scout Gold Award Project the summer after my senior year in high school. This award is equal to the Boy Scout Eagle and invlolves a great deal of work. In essence I made 100 tote bags and filled them with supplies such as crayons, bubbles, coloring books, and resources for the homeless shelter they were donated to. This project was very time consuming but well worth the effort. This gave the children coming into the homeless shelter something that belonged to them. Most times when people enter a homeless shelter they only have the clothes on their backs.

I am presently a life time member of the Girl Scouts. I was the president of the IUP Campus Scouts when I was an undergrad. Right now I have an awesome Cadette troop! We are very active, we do at least one big event a month!

In the summer I work for the Girl Scouts of Freedom Valley Council. I am the camp director at Camp Tweedale. This summer will be my third summer! I get to work with a terrific staff both from the states and other countries.
