STEVE MARTIN
   BIOGRAPHY

Steve Martin was born on August 14, 1945 in Waco, TX.  His family moved to California at the age of 5.  Steve lived near Disneyland, and started selling guidebooks there in his early teens.  It was in Disneyland that Martin caught the entertaining bug.  He learned to juggle and do magic tricks, among other things, and performed while he was working.   When Steve was 18, he started performing 4 shows a day at Knott's Berry Farm.   Steve graduated from high school and decided to go to college at Long Beach State, where he majored in philosophy.  His love of entertaining got to him though, and he transferred to the University of California to do theater.  A friend at UCal got Steve a job as a comedy writer for "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour".  Steve was making a name for himself in comedy.  He quit school and started writing and doing stand-up full time.  Soon, he was approached by Lorne Michaels about joining Michaels' "Not Ready For Prime Time Players" on a new show -- Saturday Night Live.  The show, as we all know, was a huge success in the 2nd half of the 1970's, and Steve Martin played an integral part in that success.  Martin made 3 comedy albums in the '70's, and starred in his first major motion picture, "The Jerk".  He had reached the big time.  Steve made another comedy LP in 1981, and starred or made an appearance in more than a dozen movies before 1990.  During the filming of one of these movies, Martin met the woman he has called "The Love of my life", Victoria Tennant.  The two married in 1986, but unfortunately divorced in 1994.  During the early 90's, Steve made some of his most memorable movies, (at least in my opinion) including "L.A. Story", "Roxanne", and "A Simple Twist of Fate" -- all of which he wrote the screenplays for --  as well as "Father of the Bride" and  "Housesitter".  Martin also wrote the screenplay and starred in his latest movie,1999's "Bowfinger".  Steve Martin has also written 3 plays, "The Great Flydini", "Picasso at the Lapin Agile", and "WASP".  Steve often contributes his writings to magazines as well.  Needless to say, this man is multi-talented, not only as a comedian, but as a writer and actor.  He is definitely a legend in the entertainment business.
