Child Abuse Trauma: Theory and Treatment of the Lasting Effects. John N.
Briere. 1992 Sage. ISBN 0-8039-3713-X. I was personally impressed with this book. It
stands out amongst books on this topic by virtue of its attempt to reintegrate and refocus
discussion across all forms of abuse (Vs discussing only sexual abuse, or emotional abuse,
or physical abuse) and their interrelated effects. Within this framework, he addresses the
long term impact; abuse focused psychotherapy; parameters of treatment; as well as special
issues (i.e. amnesic survivor, substance addicted survivor etc). Excellent reading for the
layperson and professional alike.
