LINKS
Healthatoz - The Search Engine for Health and Medicine - This search engine was laid out and "designed" if you will by various health professionals to help avoid the irrelevant results often found with most other more generic search engines and spiders.
Virtual Hospital Home Page - This site is probably one of the most visually impressive sites I've seen yet. The site is divided into several different sections, including one section dedicated to helping patients and patient's family members.
HealthGate home page - Billed as "your online source for health, wellness, and biomedical information". Okay, it's a tall order, but they really do try to cover it all, and some of the articles are very well written.
doctorpage.com doctor & physician directory - find a physician / doctor / surgeon - This site is billed as a way to connect with a doctor. In actual fact, if the doctor doesn't have a web presence, you might as well forget it. Still it does do a good job if you're just looking to connect with the doctor online. They also have links to other sources of medical and health information online.
Dr. Greene's HouseCalls Ask Your Pediatric Question -Dr. Greene is a pediatrician who uses this page as a way to answer parent's questions about various topics dealing with childhood and a child's special health needs as long as they are not of a urgent nature (i.e. - don't start asking about fevers if your child is already running a fever of 103 degrees).
Achoo - Split Personality! - This Internet Healthcare Directory is currently undergoing reconstruction as they update themselves to a new and improved version. Yet while they do, the old version is still working providing listings of over 7,000 healthcare sites.
PATIENTS WHO CARE - This is a subpage of the National Organization of Physicians Who Care, a non-profit organization of doctors who are concerned about possible complications and loss of quality in medical care created by the ever increasing presence of HMO's, PPO's, and similar managed care organizations.
Cardiac Catheterization - A web page developed and run by Advocate Health Systems based in Illinois, a nonprofit health system of 180 hospitals, outpatient centers, and offices. This particular page contains information specific to Heart Caths, a procedure very similar to what is done in the special procedure suite of a radiology department, but with some significant differences in specifics.
DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES- This page was developed by a group of doctors who appear to specialize in gastrointestinal medicine (stomach and intestines). It has some nice descriptions of several exams that your doctor may order in addition to some of the more routine x-ray exams I have described here.
Consumer Health Information (temporary home)- A very good listing of some sites designed for the average consumer (read patient).
A Guide to Medical Information and Support on the Internet- For someone who is relatively new to the Internet, this site may just be the best starting place around. In addition to links to several good sources for information, the author of this page also includes some tips on how to use some of the non-Web based sources such as newsgroups and chats.
Yahoo! - Health- For a list of sources developed by a non-medical professional, this list is quite good and fairly complete.
Family Health Home Page- a series of audio programs designed to be played using RealAudio Player from Progressive Networks. These programs were developed by the College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Telecommunications Center at Ohio University.
Consumer Health Associations and Programs- Another listing of consumer oriented health information.
"My Personal X-ray Procedure Record"- This is a chart developed and presented by the Department of Environmental Protection of the State of New Jersey. It gives you a handy way to keep track of what x-rays you've had and where, something that can be hard to remember even if you are a Healthcare Professional.
Infoseek guide to Medical Humor- They say laughter is the best medicine, so what better than a few laughs at medicine?
