ABOUT HENRY...

My name is Henry McCann. I have been interested in Asia since I was in grade school. When I was 10 years old I started practicing Okinawan Karate - something that changed my life. When still I high school I began teaching Karate along side my teacher. I went to school at Oberlin College and Oberlin Conservatory of Music where I eventually completed a B.A. and a B.Music. While there I founded the Oberlin Karate-kai and taught karate for 5 years. (The Oberlin Karate-kai is still a thriving martial arts organization.) I have also studied at the University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa, Japan as a Fulbright Researcher. I have a 3rd Dan (degree black belt) in Shorin (Kobayashi) ryu Karate that was awarded to me when I trained at the Kyudokan in Naha, Okinawa. I also have a black belt in Isshinryu Karate and a black belt from pressure point and grappling master George Dillman. My primary martial arts teachers have been Chris Goedecke of the Wind School of Karate, Ron Richards of Dillman Karate International, and Higa Minoru of the Kyudokan in Naha.

I consider myself a Taoist and have been a student of Inner Alchemy for several years, having studied with Master Mantak Chia, Rene Navarro and David Soucy of the Healing Tao. I also study Orthodox Yang Family Taiji with Master Gin Soon Chu of Boston. Currently I am a student of Chinese Medicine at the New England School of Acupuncture in Watertown, MA, and a teacher of instrumental music in Chelsea, MA. I look forward to a future of helping people heal themselves and the world around them...
