Meet Your Therapist:

Teri Lange, Massage Therapist, has been licensed by the State of New York since 1998. She received her Massage Therapy education from The Swedish Institute of New York City, one of the oldest and most widely recognized institutions for Massage Therapy education in the United States. She pursued her massage therapy education from 1996-1998, while working as an administrative assistant for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals in Manhattan. Upon her graduation, she resigned from Pfizer and moved to California, where she started earning career experiences as a full-fledged massage therapist.

Over the years, she has enjoyed working at various environments such as day spas, but found fulfillment mostly in her work as a medical massage therapist at chiropractors' offices. Currently, Teri is happily working at Haven Spa in Rhinebeck (Dutchess County), New York. She is there on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

On a more personal level, Teri and her husband moved to Coxsackie from Rhinebeck, NY in the Fall of 2005. Teri is very eager to meet more of the community through her work. She was born in the Philippines, lived in Malaysia for a couple of years, and did a lot of growing up in Rockland County, New York where her parents still reside. She is the 3rd oldest of nine children, loves shih-tzu's, and enjoys a variety of foods including Italian, sushi, and Spanish dishes.

SERVICES (Massage Modalities)

Customize Your Massage - The following modalities may all be combined during a session at your request:

SWEDISH MASSAGE
One of the most commonly taught and well-known massage techniques, Swedish massage is a vigorous system of treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. Five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. The disrobed client is covered by a sheet, with only the area being worked on exposed. Therapists use a combination of kneading, rolling, vibrational, percussive, and tapping movements, with the application of oil, to reduce friction on the skin. The many benefits of Swedish massage may include generalized relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue adhesions, and improved circulation, which may speed healing and reduce swelling from injury.

AROMATHERAPY MASSAGE
The use of essential oils (which are extracted from herbs, flowers, resin, woods, and roots) in body and skin care treatments is known as aromatherapy. Used as a healing technique for thousands of years by the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, essential oils aid in relaxation, improve circulation, and help the healing of wounds. Aromatherapy diffusers are utilized to fill the massage room with the scent of the oils. Specific essential oils are blended by an aromatherapist and added to a carrier oil, such as almond oil, to be used during the massage. Each of the oils has its own unique characteristics and benefits. Use of this technique declined as the modern pharmaceutical industry developed. However, the French chemist Gattefossé revived the art by coining the term aromatherapy and by publishing a book on the subject in 1928. Please note: Teri is not an aromatherapist; however, aromatherapy massage oils used by Teri during an Aromatherapy Massage session has been specially blended by an aromatherapist. You will be given a choice of oils to smell from. Generally, the scent that appeals to you the most is usually the one that will meet your needs.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Techniques which utilize deep tissue/deep muscle massage are administered to affect the sub-layer of musculature and fascia. These techniques require more advanced training and a more thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology. The muscles must be relaxed in order to effectively perform deep tissue massage, otherwise tight surface muscles prevent the practitioner from reaching deeper musculature. It helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation, and reduces inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendinitis. It is generally integrated with other massage techniques.

ORTHOPEDIC MASSAGE
Combining some elements of sports and medical massage, orthopedic massage integrates 10 modalities to treat soft tissue pain and injury. Emphasis is placed on understanding both the injury and its rehabilitation criteria. Three basic elements adhered to, despite the technical diversity in treatment, are assessment, matching the treatment to the injury, and adaptability of treatment.
