Hilary’s Two Week Update

Below are pictures of me (Hilary) at two weeks post-op. I am 28 pounds lighter. I feel great.

During my hospital stay, I did get a bit of the blues. Seeing my mother at nine weeks post-op and me struggling just to get out of bed was a bit tough. I felt I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel and that maybe I had made a mistake. I was morning all the things I couldn’t eat.

My hospital stay was made wonderful by those who were in the hospital the same time I was and my visitors. Of course, my mother and father were by my side and my best friend Billie came for a visit. But the biggest surprises was seeing Michelle, Rachelle, and George A. from the internet OneList group. They came to give support and see how us newly post-ops were doing. It was a wonderful boost to see them. It was also nice to put faces with words.

I no longer feel like this was a mistake. I had a few health issues that were fixed immediately upon my recovery and for that I am thankful. I now know that I don’t really need to morn the food because I have watched my mother try foods now that she is 11 weeks post-op.

I am managing with the puree diet. I wasn’t a big soup eater so I have been living on puree chicken and mashed potatoes. I have been adding green beans and carrots to my diet. I have had one experience with dumping because I ate too fast, but aside from that no complications.

I walk almost a mile. The weather in Southern California for the last 10 days or so has been more like Florida complete with the thunderstorms. This has made exercising very uncomfortable. But I hear the weather is improving so I look forward to walking some more. I feel really good when I am done but I still find it hard to find the motivation. I keep reminding myself that the more I walk the faster the weight will come off, but like my mother I have this inner voice the reminds me that my weight will be back like it has in the past. Now, I have to educate that inner voice.

Sitting at the computer is still a bit of a challenge since I had the pan surgery in addition to the Fobi Pouch. I can’t sit up straight just yet. But I have to remember that it has only been two weeks and I had major surgery.
