April 21, 2000

Well, it's that time of the month again.  No, not that time of the month, it'a the time of the month when I bring you up to date on Rhonda's progress, and maybe give some of my personal views on wls.
I don't know if any of you had the opportunity to see the interview with Carnie Phillps on one of the morning shows on television this morning.  She has lost about 118 lbs. so far.
There were some film clips of her before the surgery and it was easy to see that she was miserable.  It was just as easy to see this morning how happy she is.  She like Rhonda, still has a ways to go, but she like Rhonda is so proud of how far she has come.  I couldn't help feeling a little proud of her myself, and I don't even know the woman.
She also made it very clear that wls is not for everyone, and it is not the responcibilty of anyone else to recomend the surgery to others.  She said however that there are times when she wants to just walk up to someone she sees on the street that is in obvious pain with their weight and testify to them.  She wants to tell them there is help out there.  Anyway I was touched by her story and her joy.
As for Rhonda the weight loss has really slowed.  She readily points out though that this is the smallest she has been since her early twenties.  She is really relishing her new found self.   She thinks she is ready to move on to liposuction and a tummy tuck, maybe even a breast lift or reduction.  She is starting to have images of herself in a way she never before imagined.
I'll tell you one thing, it is a good thing that I am not an insecure man.  She is really starting to appreciate the looks she is getting from men in the grocery store or wal mart.
Anyway we have an appointment with a surgeon on Monday to talk about tucks and what not.
Personally I think it is too soon.  I think she needs to try to loose a few more pounds before she starts trying to handle the loose skin.  I know she is anxious, I would be too.  I just have to keep reminding her that she is only about eight months post op.  Even though the weight is coming off slowly, and at times it seems as though it has stopped coming off, I truly believe she has not reached her limit.
She is at about 170 now.  She is only 11 pounds away from the 150's and that my friends is very damn close to her goal.
I am not ruling out more surgery for her.  I understand thouroghly that she wants to tighten things up.  I would too.  But, I am pretty easy going and if the doctor thinks it is time I will definitely not rule it out.
So, there it is, I will keep you posted on what we decide to do, and the results.
Bye for now and God Bless.
