Exposed
to petroleum oils at work? I unfortunately have no actual scientific proof or evidence to substantiate the claims I am about to make. It is purely opinion. My father was a machinist for more than thirty years. His specialty was Harding lathes, if you know anything about the field. A constant circumstance of that career is that your hands are always covered with one kind of cutting oil or another. You are also in an environment where the air is fairly saturated with at the very least oil. So you are inhaling a certain amount of that oil and maybe others depending on the layout of the shop you work in. Dad was exposed to this five to six days a week for at least twenty-five years. The skin on his hands was very soft from being soaked in oil all of time. That's nice, but I have an idea that the constant exposure to the petroleum products was a major contributor to his death in 1995 at the age of 58. My father died of Pancreatic Cancer. It had moved into his liver by the time the doctors got around to listening to him when he complained of abdominal pain. If you think there was a tone to that statement, there was, but I won't go there. I won't paint any rosy pictures about my father. He had terrible eating habits until he was at least 53. He also drank until he was at least 50 and smoked that long as well. The thing about his smoking, x-rays of his lungs showed them being clear. The cancer started in the pancreas not the liver, so the drinking is not a likely candidate. To add to this is the fact that anytime my father had an injury, for instance, a cut. It would take a long time to heal. There were also other afflictions that he never seemed to be able beat. I believe the petroleum products act as a inhibitor to his immune system. The main reason I wanted to share this with everyone is that if you have a job that requires you to be exposed to oil and other petroleum based products on a regular basis. Please be aware. It has already been proven that inhaling gasoline fumes has caused cancer in lab rats. Why wouldn't the absorption of oil through the skin have the same consequences. If you are exposed regularly and there is no way to avoid it or protect yourself from it. People in these situations should be sure to include antioxidants in their diets. You should also be supplementing your diet with some type of herbal-antioxident blend for detoxification of the body. I unfortunately do not know if the oil that is absorbed is permanent or if it can be cleansed form the body. If someone reads this and has facts on the subject I would be interested. I hope at least some of this was useful to someone somewhere.
