Me

This page is all about me.  Go figure. ^^  Anyway, I didn't really know what to say here...I thought I'd put up some common questions I get and the answers to them.  If you'd like to know more, or if you have a question yourself, just use the Email button to the left to email me!

Q:  Who are you?

A:  Phoenix, the webmaster of this site and also artist and writer.  I've done several works over the past few years, including a novel series which was also my first manga-style art in chapters, called Fire Vision.  I then did a 160+ page manga called Kimono Disc that I currently have posted on my Yahoo! Group.

Q:  Why are you so against (insert cause here)?

A:  Probably because I've had experiences with whatever cause it is in the past that has caused me to be that way.  The reason I dislike Aestheticism.com springs from a string of bad experiences with personnel there in the past.  The reason I dislike Sunrise comes from a recent insult that exacerbated a past one.  The same holds true for many online yaoi groups.

Q:  So what do you like?

A:  I like a lot of things!  I still do like yaoi, and I love many anime and manga series (I'm a manga nut), as well as sentai (not the same as hentai) series and Japanese samurai TV shows.  I'm fond of jpop and some domestic music, and I love Dr Who and Mystery Science Theater 3000.  And yes...I will admit it...I like Pokemon.  I like just about anything cute.

Q:  What's your favorite anime/manga series?

A:  I couldn't really answer that definitively...it changes so often with series that I like.  It's also like trying to ask someone to choose between their children.^^  Gundam is a favorite anime series of mine, but I also like Sailormoon quite a lot.  If I had to choose one right now on overall quality and rewatchability, I'd say Haunted Junction, for the fact that it's enjoyable throughout, the characters are great, and it has a fantastic ending.

With manga, my favorite manga series to date is the Otogibanashi series by Yanahara Nozomi, for both gorgeous artwork and a surprisingly engaging story.  Most people haven't heard of Yanahara, but she is an excellent mangaka and very much worth reading.  There are plenty of other series I love, too.

Q:  Which mangaka has most influenced you?

A:  Well, both in writing and art, I think Takeuchi Naoko had a large part in it, and Go Nagai of course contributed at least a little bit.  Toriyama Akira and Miyoshi Yuki, as well as Rinta Hashiba had something to do with my style, and recently I've been falling in love with Jigoku Sensei Nube, and of course I've always loved Saint Seiya...so those series really influenced me too.

Q:  Where did your older sites go?

A:  Well, currently I'm trying to find one a more appropriate home, and the other one I'm taking down until the time presents itself where that site can be adequately hosted and given time to.  I hated to do it, but I just wasn't adding anything to it, and it was just taking up space.

I revamped the site because I didn't like the old site as much, and it wasn't efficient enough in loading time, content, etc.  I just wasn't satisfied with the way it turned out, but I really couldn't dedicate myself to remaking it in the meantime.  So, one day when I knew I'd have time for a few days, I sat down and started work on a new site.  And here it is!

Q:  Who or what is Konekonekochan?

A:  Konekonekochan is a character of my own spontaneous creation, because I wanted a cute mascot for the site.  I didn't want to use an existing character, so I was doodling in gimp (an image editing program) and came up with Konekonekochan.  His name is made up from 'koneko', which means 'kitten' in Japanese, and 'neko', which means 'cat', and 'chan', which of course is an affectionate suffix.  Konenechan for short, Konekoneko has a kind of cyclical sound to it that I liked.

Q:  Do you ever do commissions?

A:  All the time.  Use the Email button and send me your proposed commission, and I'd love to do it.  I also don't tend to ask for much in return either, usually only credit, a hand in helping with other artwork, a link, or things like that.  I do work with a magazine, though, so please be mindful of the fact that it may take a little while to do because of that.

Q:  Do you draw yaoi/hentai commissions?

A:  Yes!  I just don't get enough of them.  I prefer yaoi, but I'll do hentai, certainly.  Naturally I can't post yaoi/hentai on this site, but there are some pictures like that on my egroup, some mainly doodles, others more serious.  I'd be happy to do one for you.

Q:  Do you build webpages?

A:  Yep.  I have to charge for them, or I'll trade, of course, with anime fans, but I do in fact build webpages.  As with the other questions, just email me and we'll see what can be done.

Q:  Is there anything you don't do?

A:  Some things...I just have to think of what they are...

Q:  Who's your favorite jpop artist?

A:  Currently I have the hots for TM Revolution, and of course I'm fond of GLAY, and Nakama Yukie's work on the Haunted Junction soundtrack really impressed me.  Moriguchi Hiroko's repeated consistently beautiful work on Gundam soundtracks also struck a great chord in me, and so they are among my most favorite right now.

Q:  How about English-speaking artist?

A:  Joni Mitchell.  She's a great singer and songwriter, a sort of folk-jazz fusion.  A close second is Tori Amos.  I'm reasonably fond of Fleetwood Mac and sometimes Stevie Nicks, although I try to stay away from artists associated with Lilith Fair if at all possible.  I love Dusty Springfield, Blondie, and some of David Bowie's stuff.  Some B-52s at times, björk, and the odd Cyndi Lauper retro from time to time.

Q:  Anything else?

A:  Nothing I can really think of right now...I'll try to update this page as I think of other things to say, or get other frequent questions that I can answer.  Thanks for reading!!! ^^
