Inspiration, Etc.

Things that inspire, amuse, and make me think

"He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life;
but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction."

Proverbs 13:3

"We create a world for ourselves by what we speak. Words have power,
and we can either speak life or death into a situation."

Stormie Omartian, The Power of a Praying Parent

The above scripture and meditation were taken from the book,
A Gentle Spirit: Encouraging Words For Women.

The following sayings are taken from the book Momilies:
As My Mother Used to Say
by Michele Slung.

Be careful what you wish for; you might get it.

Anyone's a fool who doesn't try to live up to his dreams and abilities.

I'm only doing this for your own good.

I'm not everyone else's mom.

You're not going out like that, are you?

I found the following in the book Apples and Chalkdust
by Vicki Caruana.

"One mother teaches more
than a hundred teachers."
-Jewish Proverb

Frank Lloyd Wright

Frank Lloyd Wright's success as an architect
was a direct result of the influences from his first
teacher - his mother

Like many of his contemporaries in the 1870's,
Wright was schooled at home along with his
siblings. His mother was always searching for
opportunities to advance and improve the
education of her children

In 1876, the Wrights, taking advantage of the
special railway excursion rates, traveled from Boston
to Philadelphia to attend the Centennial Exposition.

At the Exposition, Mrs. Wright came upon a
life-affirming discovery for her son, Frank. The new
Froeblian "Kindergarten" idea was on display, and
Mrs. Wright eagerly drank in the new concepts and
applied them to her children's education.

Although Frank was past kindergarten age, the
Froebel ideas were quite formative for him, and he
attributed much of his architectural success to his
mother's wisdom and vision for his life.

Strong parental involvement is key to the
success of a child's education.
