STEREO         PHOTOGRAPHY

  Excellent 3D photographs
can be taken using one 35mm camera.
The two photos must be located by having the same object in one corner of the viewfinder in both photos.
The camera must be held as level as possible. The side displacement can be achieved by transferring ones
weight from one foot to the other. The movement needed is only about 10 cm, but can be much more if the
foreground is not close. The best shots have a lot of foreground.
A portrait should be possible if the subject remained still. Any scene having movement will contain
  disturbing elements.
If slide film is used the result is very pleasing and if the camera was not held level or not aimed correctly
then the slide can be remounted.
The slides can be viewed using two eye level slide viewers fixed together.
Good results can be achieved using print film but viewing the prints is difficult without special equipment.
If you are blessed with good eyesight then the`crosseyed ' method is very easy and can be quickly learned.
A viewing window is a great help, but experienced viewers can almost instantly combine the two images.
The two photos should be held at the correct angle, level, the correct distance away and brightly illuminated.
By closing one eye and then the other the viewing window can be held at the correct position and the head
tilted to align the two images. A lot of concentration is needed in the beginning - good eye exercise !
An optical wedge or wedges makes viewing easy.
  Bright illumination is very important.
Another method is to place the photos about 50cm distance, hold up one finger about 20cm distance.
When focused on the photos, two fingers will be seen. When focused on the finger three photos are seen.
Now while focused on the finger move it towards you until a third photo image appears in the centre,
when these three images appear to be about the same width the stereo image should pop into focus.

An extension having large peepholes for the eyes would help alignment.
Old specticles with the earhooks cut short ?
Mounted about 17 cm from the viewing window.
Lengths of coathanger wire fixed or glued into holes in the ends of the cross timber as support.

The photos could rest on thumb tacks (push pins) which had not been pushed in completely.
