I am a 29 year old male and I have been diagnosed with glaucoma since about the age of 12. The pupil in my right eye was malformed when I was born and doctors thought it was just a birth defect Luckily I was diagnosed early on so treatment could begin right away. Although the vision in my right eye has been damaged the pressure seems to be controllable and I am very thankful for that.

I was very glad to see so many listings for this subject when I looked on the internet. What I would really like to say though is how grateful I am that this condition, although not curable, is at least treatable. I thank my doctors and my family for supporting me. Glaucoma is a serious disease but I often find that a good attitude can greatly enhance my daily challenges as well as my treatment.

I have moved around quite a lot in the last few years so I have seen a few different eye doctors. I often chuckle to myself because when I see a new doctor I suddenly seem to become the center of attention. Other doctors are called in to take a look. Interns, residents... just about anyone on staff is encouraged, nay dragged in to "take a look at this!" At first, when I was younger, it was all overwhelming and often discouraging to hear terms like "disgenesis" and "optical nerve damage". Through time though I have learned to accept things as they are and be grateful for the sight that I still have. I've even come to enjoy the spotlight a little bit.

Thank you for listening...

Steve
