MD People
Meet in New York City
June 5 - 6 - 7, 1999

The trip to New York was an amazing experience. Quite honestly, it was one of the highlights of my life. The only downside was that we didn't seem to be able to hold back the passage of time, no matter how much we wanted to. We were just getting to the good stuff, and the party had to end... And, unfortunately, we haven't yet developed the technology to "beam" (as in "beam me up Scotty") everyone to the party. But that poor waitress was stretched to the max as it was.

We needed no warm-up time to get to the really good hugs.

Note: I'm very sorry to report that on April 2002, we lost our very good friend, Jim Dillon, to heart disease. Jim was a Low Vision Specialist who provided the MDSupport Group with a wealth of information, wisdom, and love. And on this very happy occasion in New York, Jim carried a little fanny-pack from which he kept pulling out optical devices which he tossed around like party favors... mini binoculars, mini monoculars... and, we learned he had been an award-winning hugger. Jim will be very sorely missed by the entire MDSupport Community.

Mr. and Mrs. Alex Holman arranged for us to have dinner at Pierre au Tunnel. Joyce Garnes is a fabulous storyteller, with the most magnificent "presence".  We still have to get her to tell the story of the frogs. (Take a really close look at her right shoulder. That's a frog!)

Dan and Chris simply must be Superhuman - their warmth and energy never seemed to flag, despite the fact that they were travelling with some 50 teenagers who were having the time of their lives. Note the resemblance between Tom Talley and Dan Roberts - and they wore matching hats!

And although Sharon Chism is so delicate compared to me, we were wearing coordinating dresses!

Sharon and her mom, Joyce, suggested we take a hansom cab ride around Central Park. (The driver was a quite a charmer too.  Unfortunately, we forgot to take his picture. Actually, we almost forgot to pay him!)
