Norah Doyle Fentress

January 6,1940-March 18, 2003

My wonderful wife of almost 12 years and lurching pal of 26 years died March 18,2003 after we only learned that she had terminal cancer on February 6. She is and will be sorely missed by all those she knew and touched during her truncated but happy life.

Norah adored her son Steve, Viv, Adam and Valorie.

Words fail to convey my love for her.

However...some info for the record:

Norah was born in Schnectady NY but moved to Simsbury before she was a year old and considered herself a 'Valley (Farmington) girl '. Many of her best friends today were those with whom she attended kindergarten up though high school.

Norah and Jp met at a Simsbury singles gathering (at the Pettibone Tavern) in 1978 and stayed together basically from that time thereafter. She was the first woman that put JP through a 'quiz' prior to accepting the first date.

They loved to golf, hike, tent, bike, kayak, and lurch together- with friends or without.

Norah and first husband Lester (Collins) had three boys within about three years. After they divorced, Norah worked supporting her three boys until about 1980 when she sold her house on Firetown Road and the boys moved to Michigan with their father. Norah was the quasi-office manager for Stewart Therapy until it was sold in 1989(?); then she went to work at Comstock Ferre as the bookkeeper/accountant.

For jollies, she and JP loved to travel - typically camping -throughout the Mainland but also to Scotland, Campobello, Nova Scottia, Newfoundland and ,of course, their favorite the Big Isle of Hawaii. They married there at Puuhonua o Honaunau after JP retired in 1990 with son Scott attending.

She was absolutely trustworthy (JP considered her an exemplary "New Englander"- she called 'em as she saw 'em; nuance was not a part of her character).

This is only a small part of her story.
