Information about the local San Francisco Bach Choir.
They do a number of performances each year in San Francisco. The Candlelight
Christmas concert in December, 1996 was SPECTACULAR.
"This is the place to go if you dabble in filmmaking
or simply are interested in the filmmaking process. The site is full of
practical information on cinematography, sound and editing, and screenwriting."
One of the more intelligent examples of magazines
that exist only on the Web... SALON has intelligent articles and reader
interaction. Nominated for Cool Site of the Year, 1996.
Another place to buy food on the web. I haven't explored
this site too much yet, but they were recommended by the Flying Noodle
folks, so I will check them out at some point. They do offer gourmet foods
and gift baskets. I don't know if they have secure SSL shopping or not.
Flying Noodle Pasta web site. These guys offer great
pasta and secure SSL shopping. You can even join a pasta club and receive
unique pasta and sauces each month.
Order food items from various restaurants over the
Internet for delivery to your house. Too bad it doesn't service Marin County.
I use it to check out San Francisco area restaurant menus and prices.
Another Internet food service provider. Allows Sonoma
County and southern Marin county residents to order take out food on the
Internet. Most places don't deliver. I'm waiting for this site to mature.
A collection of customer experiences in Fry's Electronics
Stores. The owner has tried to be very objective and accepts both good
and bad reviews of store experiences.
OK, this site gets points for uniqueness. Manus Hand
is the site's owner and he is on a mission to visit every single dead president's
gravesite and have his picture taken there. He's only lacking 3 presidents
as of June, 1997. He also provides other interesting information about
the presidents, such as obituaries. It's definitely worth a visit.
The ABSOLUTELY COOLEST webcam I've ever seen! Take
a peek at this Elecrolux family as they get their picture taken every single
time they open the fridge. There is a collection of "greatest" shots as
well. Enjoy trying to figure out Swedish foods.
Webcam software for Windows 95 and Windows NT. Compatible
with Video for Windows interface. Compatible with Connectix Quickcam. I
use this software on my webcam pages.
This site is hosted by a scientist that is currently
wearing braces. He has rigged up his Quickcam so that he can take snapshots
of his teeth as they move during treatment. He started in January 1997.
You can download the QuickTime movie and watch the artwork of his orthodontist!
Take a trip there for some truly creative cinematography.
This is a really neat site that lists live webcams
offering outdoor views. It is organized geographically, and you can use
this site to travel the world on a virtual tour. Check it out!
Sign up now. By the time your birthday rolls around
you will have forgotten about this site, but you'll receive birthday wishes
from around the world. It was fun!
They have cards for all occasions. I like the fact
that they simply e-mail a URL to the recipient and there's no need to go
to a "pick up window" with a password.
These greetings are multimedia and run about 330K
each. You create them and then e-mail the .exe file to the recipient. Recipient
needs a multimedia PC with 16 bit sound card.
Another one of those electronic greeting cards, but
with a super twist - you can specify custom photos from your own website.
I use this one to send people on vacations I've already taken.
Secure site that allows you to purchase and personalize
physical greeting cards for all of your non-Internet friends. Cost of a
personalized card is less than $4.00 including postage.
Send text and Word 6.0 letters to your non-Internet
friends. Secure site allows you to purchase "stamps" in $10.00 increments.
Cost of delivery is $1.00 per page.
Similar to NetGram but more expensive. These guys
charge about $3.00 per letter. You should check out some of their other
snail mail services though, like sending real postcards from a virtual
vacation to your friends.
American Association of Pediatric Opthalmology. This
site has a SUPERB bulletin board service that is monitored by pediatric
opthalmologists that are dedicated to answering questions.
This is a geeky site for opthalmologists. The guy
wrote a cool book that normal nerds like me probably wouldn't understand,
but it describes the complex calculations used to determine the correct
power of IOLs. I was originally interested because I have an IOL; however,
the guy also has an online message board that real people and opthalmologists
use. Some of the newsgroup junkies that trash the doctors haven't found
it yet, so it's a real good source of information and answers to questions
for those of us who have or have had cataracts.
Way COOL site that lets you build a personal database
of preferences and ratings for music and movies. Once you've taught it
a little about you, it will recommend music and movies you might like.
Now this guy is ambitious. He wants to collect MIDI
files for every Chopin opus ever. He's got quite a collection started and
he solicits your help in locating the rest. Many of the MIDI files are
not quantized and sound very nice on sound cards and MIDI devices that
support "real" piano sounds and the sustain pedal.
VERY COOL game invented by Mozart and implemented
on a computer. You create your own minuet and with embedded midi capability,
you get to hear the product of your musical talent immediately.

I write almost all of my checks using CheckFree.
It's a fast and easy way to take care of the majority of your banking needs
online. It also works with major software programs like Quicken. Go to
their homepage to learn more about how you can use online checking to make
your bill-paying easier.
Most of the wervices cost money, but there is one
service that is free. You can request a report telling you how the major
search engines have your web pages listed.
This company provides streaming multimedia over the
Internet. It works like Real Audio but is full-fledged multimdedia. They
have some interactive story demos and a Netscape plug-in if you want to
check it out.
Very COOL site. You can send your regular 35mm film
in for developing and they'll e-mail you the information you need to download
digital images of the pictures. Of course the actual pictures will arrive
via snail mail.
A really cool online bank whose interface is done
through secure web pages. The service uses CheckFree for check processing,
but SFNB doesn't charge a penny.
This is an AWESOME site for purchasing books on the
web. I bought a very rare, previously out-of-print book from them for only
$25. When it came, I saw that it was a limited edition reprint of only
300 copies. My father had been searching for another copy of this book
for years.
Flying Noodle Pasta web site. These guys offer great
pasta and secure SSL shopping. You can even join a pasta club and receive
unique pasta and sauces each month.

This is the company that manufactures my CD storage
system. It is an organizing system that allows me to store my CDs in "Rolodex"
fashion. Products can be ordered from this web site, but they do not offer
SSL secure shopping. Besides, their prices are really a lot higher than
in the stores. Recently I've discovered that Geneva products can be purchased
at Egghead.
Mostly contains links to allow you to order free
catalogs. There are a number of catalog stores that offer online shopping
and this site links to their home pages.
Information on the Market Pro Computer show. This
site has schedules and directions. I go about 3-5 times per year even though
I hate the $6 cover charge.
Specify the occasion and tastes of the person you
are shopping for, and this site will recommend presents that can be purchased
either online or over the phone.
AWESOME site. This is the online version of QVC shopping.
You can purchase all QVC products through this interface using secure shopping.
It also has a search engine to search for products by item number. See
what is currently showing on-air in real time. Check out the "Today's Special
Value". The most awesome online shopping site I have ever run across.
This site has a fantastic search engine for locating
rare and out-of-print antiquarian books. They hooked me up with a bookstore
in PA that had a rare book I had been looking for.
The Sharper Image is online in a major way. This
online catalogue has one of the better interfaces for secure shopping.
I have had some problems with their server though.
GTE Entertainment has started to make some promising
game software. If you liked Myst, you should definitely put Timelapse on
your list of "must-play" games. The graphics are great and the interface
is very intuitive. You better have a pentium though.
Also known as TUCOWS. This site offers a tremendous
amount of shareware and evaluation software. It is particularly useful
for Internet-related software, such as HTML editors, graphics packages,
etc. The site even offers a rating (1-5 cows) and description of each software
package.
Cool software company that sells the new Screen Themes
high resolution image wallpaper manager. It's really a neat software package
so check it out! There's a free trial version too.
Very comprehensive site featuring technology news,
information, and reviews. This site's main focus is on Internet and Internet-related
technologies. They often have reviews of available products, such as digital
cameras, CD-ROM software, etc.
Register with In Box Direct from Netscape and receive
regular mailings based on your personal preferences. Mailings to In Box
Direct come in your -mail box and contain inline web pages.
Very cool application that acts as a screen saver
on your desktop. It downloads news and weather information from the Internet
based on a profile you select and then plays that information back on a
screensaver. Go to this site to get your FREE download.
These guys offer direct non-stop flights between
San Francisco and Colorado Springs, so I fly them to visit my parents.
Their web site is OK and does offer schedule information on their regular
flights.
My currently favorite meta search engine. This is
one of the quickest search engines available. It seems to find many web
pages without expecting web site registration.
Given a valid U.S. postal address, this server attempts
to rewrite the address in the proper format along with the ZIP+4 code.
If it is successful, you can retrieve a Postscript or a GIF file of the
address for printing, with a barcode! You can also view a street map of
the address, from 2 different Internet map sites (MapBlast and MapQuest).
A comprehensive list of search engines categorized
by information type. This site contains the most comprehensive set of search
engines I have ever seen, and it is especially easy to find specific types
of search engines to deal with very specialized searches. Examples of search
categories include medical and TV entertainment.
This site contains a lot of helpful hints for designing
useful and easily understood web sites. It's a great reference site, and
not surprisingly, it's well designed.
Webcam software for Windows 95 and Windows NT. Compatible
with Video for Windows interface. Compatible with Connectix Quickcam. I
use this software on my webcam pages.
I have two of these counters on my website: one on
my front door and the other on my Living Room page. They are especially
neat if you don't want to mess with CGI, you want a reliable counter, or
you want to get a great set of statistics about who visits your pages and
when. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this counter software. There's a free CGI counter
without the statistics if you don't want to pay. Check it out!
Advertise your own website for FREE. It's fun and
easy to set up an advertising account with ILE. You create and submit an
advertising banner for your web pages and you install advertising HTML
on your web site. Then, ILE will advertise your site on other sites based
on the frequency your site advertises (i.e. gets hits).
The most popular online guestbook service. Also known
as "LPage". Unfortunately, these guys sometimes delete established guestbook
entries without warning. The service is free though.
The most popular web counter available on the Internet.
Register yourself and then access the counter by inserting special HTML
code into your page. It's free for personal use.
Very COOL website that offers an alternative to background
GIF and JPEG files. This site shows all of the 256 color combinations that
can be used for fonts and backgrounds in standard HTML. It also provides
the numeric equivalent codes for each color and sample HTML text. The site
uses a Frames interface, which is well put together.
Among other things, this site offers an extensive
gallery of GIF animation. It also provides information on the creation
and use of animated GIFs for web pages.
A collection of interesting backgrounds. I have seen
most of these on other web pages. The page takes a while to load because
all of the backgrounds are presented on a single page. In addition, there
is no apparent grouping or ordering of the backgrounds.
Very unusual and fun backgrounds. This site is well-implemented
and has a number of unique backgrounds I haven't seen at other sites. It
specializes in backgrounds that are left-margin intensive and fade to white.
The background on this web page came from this site.
Easy to navigate web page if you have frames. Icons
and images are categorized for easy access. I have not used any of these
icons yet, but the site was so well organized that I keep it around.
