Comments: I have had HSV for over 10 yrs and it has not ruined my life. It has changed it in many ways for the better, actually! I have told 6 or so men, and while no one ran away screaming, one did graciously decline. Right now, I have a wonderful boyfriend who has accepted my HSV status without fear. Along with using condoms, I do take acyclovir every day ("suppressive therapy") to help reduce the risk of transmission. I provided him with as much information as I co ld, and I answered his questions to the best of my ability. He knows about my involvement in America Online's Herpes Self-Help Chat, and is very supportive of my effort. My advice to people has always been: don't let HSV ruin your life, or sabatoge it in any way. Get educated about HSV, and start talking to people online or in person at a HELP group.
