AEM, I started to read your page and a slow smug smile spread across my face, as I thought to myself "well its not like that here". Then I thought again and I thought how many people do I know on welfare, how many people with a disability,how many non-mid le class, how many non white.
Just a small item, but when I have seen a person without a disabled sticker park in a disabled spot how many times have I gone over and told that person that they are selfish?.. Never. *sigh*. Your page has opened my eyes even if just a little. I will start to look, I will start to speak out.

Was just contacted by Kathy Houghton from Alaska re: her book she is going to publish, and I ran across your web site, and have spent the last hour (or more??) cruising it and find it wonderful and beautiful. Not only do we share the same health probl ms and social concerns, but I have my apt. done in angels and roses...did not see any Elvis on your page, tho'! Ha! Another thing, my family home is Spruce Pine, NC and I think you are very close to there from your description of where you live. I have a ittle piece of property down there that I inherited from my grandparents and dream of building a log home on the site someday and doing some organic gardening with water from my mountain spring! Waiting on God to send me my "Grizzly Adam" mate that I am p aying for! It seems we have a lot in common, except my kids are grown, and would love to hear from you. I will trade phone numbers with you when I do. I was just down there last summer for about three weeks and had to force myself to return to Ohio. I lov the Blue Ridge Mtns. My ancestry as well is German Scots/Irish. I write poetry, lyrics, and short stories and may soon become involved in booking Gospel Ministries...hopefully my way off of SSD.
