My baby was diagnoised with anecephaly on Memorial day weekend. I was devastated to find that my baby was not perfect. I have been full of lots of questions and fears. Every time she moves it makes it hard to believe that anything is wrong. I decided o care her full term, I was not sure that I could live with not knowing for sure that they weren't wrong. I think that one of the hardest things about this is going to be telling my little girl whom is 4 1/2. She is so excited that she is going to be a ig sister, and I just don't know how I will tell her that the baby just won't be coming home with us. My doctor wants to put me in the hospital the 1st week of Jan. to induce my labor. I will then be 36 weeks. I'm scared, I don't want to lose this baby The love that I feel is unimaginable. something like this makes you feel as if no one could possibly understand, but after reading your sight I know that I am not alone. It breaks my heart to no end to read the pain that this defect has caused so many Thanks for making me understand that I am not alone and that my carrying this baby is the right thing to do.

I'm not the child's mother, but her older sister. I was only five when she was born, but it has had a lasting impact on my life. I am a freshman in college and writing a research/influence paper on Lindsay and anencephaly. I have found you Anencephaly wareness page very useful and enjoyed reading the stories of the other "angels". It breaks my heart when I think of these children, and look forward to the day when I see Lindsay in heaven.

I long for all you parents with this dreadful disease. My son was born with a spinal/brain tumor called Anaplastic Oligodendroglioma/GLioblastoma Multiforme IV.Hes fighting his battle with this cancer everyday with chemo and radiation next year. I pray ev ryday he will be cured and he is fighting it everway his 16month old body can. So far since surgery and chemo that began this January no further growth from the 5% still left. Your poem is beautiful and I have kept it incase I should someday need it. God Bless your angel.

After more than 3 years, I have just come across your site, how hard it was and still is. Our angel Maria was our fourth child and our first and only daugter. We were devestated when we lost her and even now 3 years plus the pain is still intense. We have since had two more wonderful sons. We always wanted 6 children and now we have them. Our 5 boys and precious daughter are our life, and even if Maria is not down here with us she is always by our side. She is never to far away, because she is in our heart to stay. This has rocked us. On 8/31/00, we found out our baby had a birth defect. On 9/1/00, I gave birth to our son and on 9/1/00, our son died. We were in a fog. I didn't know that I could choose to carry our son to term. I just followed along in a haze. n 8/28/00, the doctor called us to say that we were at risk for spina bifida. They arranged for an ultrasound on 8/31/00. During those two days we tried to cope with the thought that our first child would not be perfect. Then we found out that our chil would not be alive. We have had two miscarriages this past year and when we got pregnant with William, we were worried but optimistic. We were concerned about another miscarriage. It never entered our mind that our son could have a birth defect. Afte the first three months, it never entered our minds that we could lose our son. I am grateful for your site as well as other like yours. We are feeling hopeless and doomed. I am looking for every little bit of hope I can find. Salena

I was 18 years old, living with my 2 healthy children and my fiance of 4 years. We had planned on having 3 children, even though we were very young. We were excited when we found out that I was pregnant for the third time and didn't expect anything to go rong with the pregnancy. I had a blood test when I was 4 months pregnant. It was the Alpha-Fetal Protein test. It came back abnormal. The doctor called and says that sometimes this happens, not to be alarmed, but to come in for a follow-up ultrasound. During the ultrasound, the t chnologist turned the screen away from us and would not let us see the baby. No one would tell us anything. I was sent to a specialist which broke the terrible news to us that our baby indeed had a neural tube defect, anencephaly. We were very much in den al and prayed for a miracle, and carried the baby to term. The doctor tried to talk me into termination several times, all of which I refused. I was going to college full time during the time. One day I came home from school having contractions. I went in o the hospital at 8 1/2 months pregnant. I was beginning to dialate, but needed to have the gel put inside to help the labor along. I was very upset and didn't want to have the baby. I thought that as long as I could keep her inside of me, I could keep he alive. She was very active and I felt she already had a personality. After a very painful and long labor, Stephanie Lee was born. To this day, I swear that I heard a cry when she was born, however, everyone who was present at her birth says that she was orn still. I still remember holding her in my arms, not wanting to ever let her go. Her precious little fingers. She was perfect. I got to hold her twice before the funeral parlor took my precious baby away. I miss my little girl and think about her all o the time. I had another baby 16 months after her death and since have had 2 other healthy baby girls. I wish that the internet was around when I had Stephanie. There were very little resources around. I think that your website is helping me grieve over m baby girl, even after all of this time.

I read your story about Baby Jessica and just wanted to tell you what a lovely tribute to your precious little one. I have been there also. I lost my son Jesse in 1997, and not a day goes by that I do not think about him. We were blessed to have a daug ter Jan. 1, 1999 who is healthy. Amazingly, she looks alot like her brother. I am 18 weeks pregnant and Just was told that my baby has anencephaly. When my dr. told me I had no idea what this was. After a heartbreaking decision my husband and I had decided to terminate the pregnancy. We want to try again real soon. I have 2 health boys, and they are heartbroken knowing that mom isnt gonna come home from the hospital with their new little sister or brother. we decided not to know the sex of the baby for I am barely strong enough now to even terminate. I have to go for more tests th s week and It feels like I've been dreaming for 4 days. I couldnt carry this baby knowing what the outcome is gonna be. My son Brandy just called me today crying that his baby to be in anencephalic, my heart is broken as is theirs, I am a nurse and can understand, they cannot even comprehend it. I lost a son in 1991, he was 20. the age doesn't matter, a loss is still a los and none greater the that of a child. Our comfort is that this little one will be in Heaven with his Uncle Shawn and our great Heavenly Father. Hello folks. I wanted to write you because your story touched my wife and I very deeply. We found out that our baby was Anencephalic last Wednesday. We had the labour induced yesterday. We did not have your strength to carry our little one to term. We did get to hold her, have hand and feet prints done. It was good to tell her we loved her. Kelsie was our lst granddaughter. Her parents were stationed at Ft. Hood, Tx. We had never heard of anencephaly. She was still born. Her mom had been home for a baby shower in July of 1994. A few weeks after she went home, she started to have problem . She was due in November of 1994. She went into labor in August, and after a few tests was flown by helicopter to a military hospital in San Antonio, Tx. The drs there told them Kelsie had anencephaly. There was no hope of her living. The drs there ere very good to the kids, they were 19 and 20. They said if a few more sonos were done they should have found this out before then. After her birth, she was left with them for a few hours. The drs took pictures of them together, which was indeed appre iated. Kelsie was brought back to Il for burial. Thank you Tammy for such a wonderful website. It has given me a lot of support to know we are not the only ones who have lost such a beautiful baby to anencephaly. I was 22 weeks pregnant when I was told my baby would not live. It was devastating news, his was our first baby. My husband and I decided to terminate the pregnancy at 29 weeks. Its something I wish I would have reconcidered. My son Luis was still born on July 9, 1999 at 10:39 am. I held his life-less body and we took many pictures. He wa taken away and 5 days later we held his funeral. I wish I would have gone full term, perhaps my baby would have been born alive and I would have know what his cries sounded like, what it would have been like to see him move and eat and do all the other hings babies do. Even if it would have been for a short while. For all those who have just found out that your baby has anencephaly I would recomend you go full term. At 16 and a half weeks pregnant, we were told there was something wrong with our babies head. Later we were told that our baby had not developed a brain and had spina bifida. we were devastated, angry, bitter - every emotion you can think of. The fact that one day we were both making plans for our unborn baby and excited in the fact we were to be parents, and the next its all gone still HURTS! Everyday the emptiness gets more and everyday I want my Baby charlie back but I know I can't have her. A day after the termination I believe an angel came down to comfort me.I know some people think I'm a bit mad for believeing this, but I know what I he rd. The angel told me that I will meet my baby Charlie again and that she loved us. I believe this with all my heart and the first thing I will do is to hold my baby girl in my arms and tell her that I love her. We will never ever forget our baby girl, as she is our first child. We are determined to have children in the near future and they will all know about their baby sister and I hope they will love her as much as we do.
