Diabetes Prevention Trial--Type 1 (DPT-1) is a nationwide study to see if we can prevent or delay type 1 diabetes, also known as insulin-dependent diabetes. Nine medical centers and more than 350 clinics in the United States and Canada are taking part in the study. Diabetes has a genetic link; close relatives of people with the disease have an increased chance of developing it. These are the individuals being recruited for the DPT-1. All family members, including children, are eligible for a free test to determine their risk of getting diabetes.
