Congratulations on getting back home. I know it was a long and difficult journey. I've been recovering for 7 yrs and loving life. I also want to say thank you and all the others who fought for their country and freedom. Not sure how I felt about the w r--then or now--right, wrong. Is there a "right" when people are dying? My Dad's ship was sunk three days after Pearl Harbor. He had to leave with buddies trapped in sea ed compartments--I always said, "He came back dead." I am doing a report for school-"physical therapist assistant" I am supposed to write in 1st person about being disabled. I am not disabled and find it very hard to imagine what even a day of being disabled would be like. I can only imagine and that's no even close. I read many books about Vietnam vets. It is my main interest. If you can send me any information or just "a day in the life of a Vietnam vet" I would greatly appreciate it. I don't think it's fair to try to imagine what you are going throu h. Or to try to guess. I do donate to 2 different organizations for Vets, and may join the TASH group. Dear Dave, this is a good job. I am not a veteran but my Husband is, also Vietnam. He has a hard time trying to talk about it or watch anything about it so we just let it go most of the time. We did get to see the replica of "The Wall" and he has had n ght-mares and been very emotional after that for a while. Your sight is a tribute to all vets, but myself i came home from namn walking. discharged a year later under a medical with honors from namn. I have done everything since then until 1991 when i suffered a spinal cord injury from lifting to much. After i l id around a whilke and then got back on my feet again, I suffered another spinal injury last october. doing the same as before and now unable to lift anything or stand for a period of time. I got to your site through another one and am forwarding it to my brother-in-law, who served in country for 3 tours and wanted to reup for Desert Storm. He suffers from PTSD because of agent orange and is very active in veteran activities. I was very impr ssed with your hero page, and actually enjoyed your whole website. Hi. My name is Ross, im 19 years old. I live in Texas. Im a drug addict and no longer ashamed of it. You may have thought, well you are a teenager, you don't care about wars and all that history. Well, I am writing this becuase I was recently touched by somethign I saw. Sunday, I saw the movie saving private ryan. I realize taht it is just a simple movie, all special effects, and that it can never ever replicate the full horrors that must go on in war. But that movie made me think in a way I never thoug t before. It made me realize to be thankful for each and every day we have here, and to make sure to let others konw you appreciate them. I realized, that could have been me over there in Germany, that could have been me in Vietnam...that could have been my friensd....that coudl be me or my friends any day. It is kind of scary to think about. But anyways, I will quit rambling. Just wanted to say you did a very good job with your page, and the poetry is excellent. Hi Dave, I liked your site. Brought back alot of memories for me. Like you I served our country. I enlisted to go to Nam before it ended, thinking like 10 other classmates that we would never let S.Vietnam fall (go figure, US Marine ROTC brats huh). But, thats his ory now. We never made it there. I was in the Navy, in Intelligence. The first few years were ok, but the last two were not good. Working with Navy Special forces in the Middle east, looking for hostages, was what it all came down to. Ive spend quite a fe nights feeling exactly what some of your work says. The fear and the terror sometimes is too much to take. Not knowing if the next second will be it, or the one following. But, like you - im ok. I was lucky and didnt have it near as bad as you or others efore. My hat is off to you, I salute you, and the sacrifices you made. I am now also disabled, but not by military conflict, but by someones thoughtless act of pulling out in front of me..but I trust the Lord and I have faith... Take care..... James Speed,

Just surfed in and am glad I did. My son almost was in nam trained in the service for it but you and others had the job finished before he went. He was all for going but too young to make it in 72 but in 74 he was in the Army. after that he went into th Navy. He is now just 40 and not able to work because of an injury to his back and 2 surgeries that hasn't worked right. Thanks again for the job well done. My indian community always honors the vietnam vets at every powwow by have them lead Grand Entry and by having a blanket dance and honor song. they are recogniz d as the warriors they are and thanked for their sacrifice. It is too bad the white people do not take the time to do the same. Your site is ver good. I hope tha tit will be visited by many. I would like to share my personal heroes with you. Chief Jo eph of the Nez Perce, Crazy Horse of the Lakota, Geronimo of the Apache. these were all very brave strong men who tried to protect and save their people from the invasion of the white army. they were very noble men. I would also like you to know that I am on the National Bone Marrow Donor registry and have been for two years. I have not been called to donate yet, but I hope to be able to help if ever called. I have a good friend who underwent a transplant when she was 28. She is now 30, and doing wel . She is ready to go back to work and is attending college to get her degree in Social Work. Dear Dave; I was really touched by your web page and your poem for Bryan. Tears were rolling down my face. It is wonderful how you can express your feelings. I wish I could do that too. I too lost a son, but I never could see him grow up. I carried h m for nine month, and could hold him only for a moment. He lived only for 1 1/2 hours. He would have been 11 years old last month. Some pain never goes away, and I could not even imagine what you went thru in Nam. My husband was in the Army and so I h ve heard a lot of stories first hand, awful:(. Those politician still don't understand what they have done to the men in this country. My prayers go out to you and to this brave people who have (and still do) serve this country. God bless you.

Hey Dave - was just looking around and saw you were into old cars so I thought I would leave some info on a vet/car/bike event comming up in June. We are on the other side of the country but just in case you find yourself traveling... Just wanted to give you West Coast guys a heads up on an event comming up in June. In conjunction with the visit of the Moving Wall (6 - 12 June) to Klamath Falls, OR the Klamath County Combat Veterans Committee will be hosting the"Vietnam Veterans Memori l Classic" car and motorcycle show June 6 and 7. The car/bike show is limited to vets and active duty only and registration is FREE w/copy of DD 214. Registration includes free event dog tags, hat, shirt, BBQ, and Sat nite dance with music by the Drifters Limited to the first 2000 cars and bikes. For info call 541-884-5193, Email klamcham@cdsnet.net or see the website listed here. Just in case all this gets a little slow we have arranged for the 55 Chev POW/MIA dragster to race an F15 on the main runway at Kingsley Field (how the Air Force let that one slip by I'm not sure).

I am terrified of flying to the point of being phobic. Have tried many times, and decided it was not worth it. LOL I am not into old cars, but I have one. She was the last model made, a camaro, Berlinetta with the $1mil experimental dash that GM was trying to make for our Tomcats. She is now almost 14 year old. I have never had the chance to say thank you to our Nam Vets. All our friends were busy having families and none had to go. But, you have my deepest respect and admiration as do all those who fought in a war that didn't exist. I am very impressed with your writing. You have a God given gift that many of us only dream of. I can't take away the pain or frustration that our Nam Vets have been put through. Yet, I can tell you that I am proud of each and everyone of you and hold you fondly in my heart.
