LEARN ABOUT ANXIETY
Anxiety
is the number one mental illness in America today. One out of
five Americans suffer from some form of anxiety. We all
experience some form of anxiety from time to time, but some of us
can't control them. Look over the following, and carefully think
about each and see if you suffer from anxiety disorder. This is
not to scare you, but to simply inform you of what is going on in
your body that can be causing anxiety.
People
suffering from chronic anxiety often complain of the following:
strong anxiety episodes, racing heart/chest discomfort,
trembling, nausea, hot/cold flashes, feelings of
unreality/disorientation, dizziness, uncontrolable thoughts,
depression, fatigue, feelings of helplessness, panic episodes,
muscle tension, migraine headaches, numbness and strange aches or
pains.
People
suffering from anxiety disorder often have extreme apprehensions
about the following: dying, having a heartattack, fainting,
losing their breath, going insane, losing contol, embarrassing
themselves, choking and hurting themselves or someone else.
Did
you have any of the following when growing up? Alcoholism in the
family, strict religion upbrining, parents with high
expectations, sibiling parenting, feelings not easily displayed,
negative emotional environment, lack of praise or approval,
nervousness in family, over-reacting family members, feeling that
you much prove yourself as a child, seperation from loss of some
family member/members, and unstable upbringing with various
conflicts. Do to the situation you experienced as a child, you
may have adopeted certain personality traits. Here is the most
common traits found in people that have anxiety disorder:
perfectionist, inner nervousness, tendency to over-react, low
self-esteem, guilt ridden, extremely sensitive to
criticism/emotions, high expectations, inablility to make
decisions, obsessive thinker, extremely analytica, worry about
health problems, and need to appear in control at all times. It
is important that you look at these personality traits and pick
out the ones that explain you. Once you know what they are you
can begin to work on them.
When
we have anxiety, we are often limited to what we can do. When we
have a panic attack at a certain spot say the mall, we start
believing that we will have one if we go there again. This is
limitation. The area that once was big is now small. You can't
come and go like you want to. Here is an example of some
limitations: not being able to be alone comfortable, not being
able to drive alone or with someone, not being able to go
shopping, not being able to socialize comfortably and not being
able to make decisions. Now look at what limitations that you may
have. Once you notice that limitation, begin working on over
coming that limitation. I will show you later how you can do
that.
Here
are some common fears that anxious people experience: flying,
socializing, driving, speaking in public, standing in lines,
traveling, working, not being in control, eating, fear of
doctors/hospitals, illness, shopping, being alone, dying, storms,
crowds, and not being able to get out or leave when desired.
Now
think about the above information and look at your life. Do you
think you have anxiety disorder? If you have atleast 5 of the
above information, then you suffer from anxiety disorder. It is
important to get help right away. Don't feel like you are going
crazy. This is a very real illness and can easily be overcome
with medication, therapy, exercise, healthy diets and no
caffiene!!! Call your local doctor to get the correct treatment
